Křinice – Trails, Nature and Village History
Accommodation in Křinice
Křinice lies in the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area, directly below the Broumovské stěny, which are designated as a national nature reserve. The Křinické rybníčky are a protected area. Among other species, storks, herons, and swans nest there; their presence may vary by season. The rocky landscape, ponds, and birdlife offer different ways to experience nature during your stay.
Trails around Křinice
A red-marked hiking trail passes through Křinice, taking you from Broumov to Hvězda. The Hvězdecká cesta “Aloise Jiráska” also runs from Broumov via Křinice to Hvězda. One route description highlights the red marking and hiking trail, while the other gives the route the name of Alois Jirásek. For planning purposes, these descriptions cover a color-marked hiking connection and a named route between the places listed.
The “Proč chodit daleko?” educational trail is a circular route around Křinice. Its 19 stops cover everyday history, small religious structures in the surrounding area, and local nature. The trail ends at the Chapel of Panny Marie Sněžné below Hvězda. Its loop, stops, and topics make it a different route option from the connections between Broumov and Hvězda: here, the focus is on a circular trail and several local themes.
For cyclists, the blue-marked Vyhlídková cesta cycling route runs along the foot of the Broumovské stěny, at the upper end of Křinice. The “Cesta Rájem aneb přes Ameriku do Broumova” route leads to the upper end of the village. When choosing a route, you can compare three features: the connection between Broumov and Hvězda, the educational trail as a circular route with 19 stops, and the Vyhlídková cesta, explicitly designated as a cycling route.
Village History and Architecture
The village heritage conservation area of Křinice preserves masonry farmsteads of the Broumov type, dating from the late 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. This period provides a specific historical context for the village architecture: the farmsteads do not date from a single year but belong to a building phase that spanned several decades.
Křinice was founded in 1255 as part of a monastic estate. The village is also home to the Chapel of St. Hubert, built in 1786; a Stations of the Cross dates from the second half of the 19th century. The dates can be placed in chronological context: the village’s early history was followed by the farmsteads and religious buildings of the late 18th and 19th centuries. Medieval origins, farm architecture, and religious heritage thus come together. An August 2023 issue of the local newsletter describes the Křinická pouť as an event that combines a spiritual program with secular festivities.
