Accommodation in Brada-Rybníček
Brada-Rybníček is shaped by several clearly distinct themes: the medieval Brada Castle, the early Gothic Church of St. Bartholomew, the battle of 1866, and the summit of Vrch Brada. There are also routes with different forms and distances. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Brada-Rybníček, these highlights offer concrete starting points for planning your trip: decide whether historical sites, the view from Vrch Brada, or a tour should take priority for you.
Brada Castle, the Church, and History
Brada Castle was founded in the 13th century; today, only scant remains survive. A ditch runs along the eastern edge of the site, with a rampart in front of it. The founding period and the layout of the terrain thus offer two different ways to explore the castle site: its historical context on the one hand, and the spatial sequence of ditch and rampart on the other.
The early Gothic Church of St. Bartholomew is very well preserved and is one of the oldest cultural monuments in the Jičín District. It is in a different state of preservation from the castle: the church is very well preserved, while only scant remains of the castle survive. This places two distinct architectural features side by side, rather than limiting the site's cultural history to the castle ruins alone.
On June 29, 1866, a battle of the Austro-Prussian War took place within the cadastral area of Brada-Rybníček. The memorials to the battle were restored in 2021 and ceremonially unveiled at a commemorative event. The dates have different roles: 1866 marks the fighting, while 2021 marks the restoration and unveiling of the memorials.
Landscape and Views from Vrch Brada
Since 2002, most of the cadastral area of Brada-Rybníček has been within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The summit of Vrch Brada has a well-maintained rest area with benches and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. There are also panels with labeled panoramic photographs of the view. The summit therefore offers a different focus from the historic sites: here, the rest area, sweeping views, and panoramic photographs take center stage.
Compare Hiking and Cycling Routes
The ruins of Brada Castle can be reached via the blue-marked hiking trail toward Jičín – Prachovské skály. The 2018 municipal plan lists marked cycle route No. 4365 as passing through Brada and Rybníček; it forms a loop of about 23 km north of Jičín. Check the current route markings before setting out. The 2026 route overview lists the seventh day of the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje as a 26.5 km route from Jičín via Brada and Kbelnice and back to Jičín. When choosing, you can compare more than just the approximate distance: for the cycle route, the loop north of Jičín is highlighted, while for the day stage, the route via Brada and Kbelnice and return to Jičín are emphasized.
A Fairytale Touch
Rumcajsova Cave adds a fairytale touch. Its interior is designed as the home of Rumcajs, Manka, and Cipísek, with sleeping, cooking, and playing as part of the display. This theme is clearly distinct from the historic buildings and the memorials to the battle.
