Úlibice offers two distinct points of interest for a trip: the history of the church and other historical landmarks, and the Úlibická bažantnice nature reserve. Cultural history and protected landscape are separate themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Úlibice, this distinction can help you decide which aspects of the place matter to you during your stay.

Church and historical traces

The present-day Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary was built between 1712 and 1716. It was known as a parish church earlier: a description of the Diocese of Prague from 1344 to 1350 mentions it in this role for the first time. These dates refer to different periods in its history: the mention came well before the construction of the present-day church. The building has been protected as a historic monument since February 7, 1994. The earlier reference therefore does not date the present-day building.

A reconciliation cross stands on the northern edge of Úlibice. Boží muka u Úlibic, a landscape-defining feature dating from 1767, is also located there. A description updated in 2012 notes that Boží muka u Úlibic offers a view of part of Český ráj. Near the church, traces of a former fortress can be seen on a hill. The historical landmarks are thus spread across two named areas: the hill near the church and the northern edge of the village.

Nature reserve and landscape

The Úlibická bažantnice is a nature reserve first designated on July 4, 1956. It is a preserved remnant of a hardwood alluvial forest in the area between Polabí and Podkrkonoší. These details combine its protected status, the specific habitat type and its location within the wider area between the two regions. This gives the history of the place a distinct connection to nature: the focus here is not a building, but a protected remnant of alluvial forest.

For the survey period covered by the management plan, the Bažantnice was away from all marked hiking and cycling trails and was not used for recreation or sport. If you are planning a hike or bike ride, do not assume the nature reserve is a marked recreational route; check the current trail layout before your trip.

Travel information

A detail updated in 2014 states that no marked hiking route passes through Úlibice. It names the roads from Jičín toward Nová Paka or Hořice as the easiest access routes. Check current route information and road conditions before your trip. The two practical details have different scopes: the information about the hiking route concerns Úlibice, while the time-limited statement about hiking and cycling trails applies specifically to the Bažantnice. Therefore, do not automatically apply the location of the nature reserve to all trails in the village.
