Busovača combines historic buildings, an early written history, and opportunities for winter sports and cycling. The town is located near the confluence of the Ivančica and Kozica rivers; the Kozica is a tributary of the Lašva. When planning your trip, you can focus on different things: historic sites, a fixed festival date, or activities such as skiing and cycling.

History and religious buildings

Busovača was first mentioned in written records on August 16, 1371. The town developed around an iron ore mine where many Saxon miners worked. In the Middle Ages, Busovača was also an important meeting place for merchants from Dubrovnik. Mining and trade thus offer two distinct historical perspectives on the town: its development around the mine and its role as a meeting place for merchants.

The Sulejman-begova Mosque was first built in the 16th century. It was completely destroyed during the war and rebuilt in 2002. The Church of Saint Elias was completed in 1968 and is only a short walk from the town center. A Catholic church in Busovača was completed in 1885.

Visitors can see stećci in the municipal area; conditions at individual sites may vary. The Tekija Mesudija is arranged over three floors, with the tekija on the top floor. Together, the mosque, churches, stećci and Tekija Mesudija provide different cultural and historical points of interest for a visit.

Skiing and cycling

The Pridolci Ski Center is located in the municipal area of Busovača. It has two ski lifts serving two slopes and caters to beginners and recreational skiers. Visitors can rent ski equipment there and hire ski instructors from the ski school; these services may vary by season. If you plan to rent equipment or take lessons, check before your trip whether they are available on your dates.

The “Staza stare pruge” (Old Rail Trail) cycling route runs through the municipal area. It was laid out along the route of a former narrow-gauge railway dating from the Austro-Hungarian period. The route is considered easy, with mostly gentle terrain and mild gradients. While Pridolci is described in terms of its lifts, slopes, and focus on beginners and recreational skiers, the cycling route is defined by its former railway alignment and terrain. This lets you choose between two different activity focuses.

Near the municipal center of Busovača, Tisovac is regarded as a common starting point for tourism and recreational activities. It complements the more specifically defined options in Pridolci and along the cycling route as a more general point of reference for leisure activities.

Festival date, mineral springs and cuisine

The feast of Saint Anthony takes place every year on June 13 in Busovača and attracts visitors from other towns. If you want to plan your trip around this date, check the latest event information: the exact program may change.

Mineral springs can be found in the town and its surroundings, including in Klokoti and Oselište. Cuisine is also part of the local character: the municipal area has had a restaurant tradition for decades, serving high-quality cuisine, including roasts and other specialties. This culinary tradition provides a distinct point of interest when planning your stay, alongside the historic sites and recreational activities.
