Razëm between forest, karst and mountain activities
Accommodation in Razëm
Razëm brings together mountain forests, a karst landscape and outdoor activities. The town is included as a stop on the official Shkodër–Vermosh–Razëm–Bogë–Valbonë itinerary. Forests, a karst plateau and a range of activities offer several concrete starting points for planning your trip. When comparing hotels in Razëm, you can first consider whether you want to focus your stay on hiking, winter activities, caves or the landscape.
Forests and karst landscape
The tourist area of Razëm extends across a karst plateau. Beech and pine forests are part of the landscape; at the same time, Razëm is surrounded by green pine and fir forests. The town lies within the protected area of Shkrel Municipal Nature Park. Forests and karst are therefore two clearly recognizable features of the landscape: the tree species mentioned shape the natural scenery, while the karst topography is visible in depressions, shafts and caves.
The moraines of Razëm are Quaternary glacial deposits. They form hills 50 to 80 metres high, with karst dolines and depressions. Geologically, their formation and present-day features are connected: the deposits explain their origin, while the hills, dolines and depressions give the terrain its distinctive character. The karst topography also includes dolines, karst shafts and caves in the fields of Razma, Troshani and Fusha e Zezë.
Hiking and winter activities
Razëm offers opportunities for hiking and winter activities. In winter, skiing is possible, particularly in Fusha e Zezë. Popular activities include mountaineering, skiing and camping under the stars. Cycling and horseback riding are also possible in the area. Razëm is considered accessible year-round, including during the winter season. This gives trip planning a clear seasonal focus: skiing is especially associated with winter, while the landscape also offers opportunities for hiking and mountain activities.
Caves and landforms
The karst landscape is also evident in the caves of Veleçik and Lugjet. Exploring the summit cave of Veleçik begins with a 28-metre vertical descent. Local guidance may be required for technical access. Lugjet Cave has a total length of 79 metres. These measurements refer to different things: 28 metres is the descent at the start of the exploration, while 79 metres is the total length of Lugjet Cave. The Lugjet Gorge can be visited by amateurs and occasional visitors.
Mountains, access and cultural heritage
North of Razëm, Veleçik and Kunora together form a striking landscape feature with tourism value for mountaineering and picnics. The Veleçik ridge reaches 1,724 metres. The Razëm moraines can be accessed via the Koplik–Dedaj–Razëm rural road.
Razëm’s ethnographic heritage includes the xhubleta, worn by women and girls. Traditional songs accompanied by the lahuta are also part of the area’s cultural traditions.
