Lepushë lies among the peaks of the Albanian Alps. Green valleys, dense forests and alpine meadows shape the landscape; Maja e Vajusha is one of its high mountains. A stay here therefore centres on hiking, nature and local traditions. Two trails offer different ways to reach Lëpushë on foot or take a circular route from there. The tranquillity of the village and its culinary traditions are also among the themes you can use to shape your trip.

Hiking: a circular route or a longer trail

The Lëpushë–Maja e Berizhdolit–Lëpushë circular hiking trail is 11.3 kilometres long, moderately difficult and takes about 4.5 hours. It is in Alpet e Shqipërisë National Park and loops back to Lëpushë. Its length, difficulty level and approximate duration give you concrete points of reference for assessing the trail as part of your hiking plans.

Another hiking trail is 25.9 kilometres long. It starts in Theth in Shkodër District and ends in Lëpushë in the municipality of Malësi e Madhe. This makes it more than twice as long as the circular route. The trails also differ in their routes: one starts and ends in Lëpushë, while the other leads from Theth to Lëpushë. For the longer trail, it is advisable to check current route conditions before setting out.

If you are choosing between the two hikes, the circular route has a stated duration of about 4.5 hours and a moderate difficulty level. The 25.9-kilometre length of the route from Theth to Lëpushë provides a clear planning reference.

Mountain Scenery and Tranquillity

The landscape of Lëpushë includes valleys, forests and alpine meadows as well as high mountains. Maja e Vajusha is one of the mountains mentioned. Together, these features give an impression of a mountain region shaped not only by peaks but also by forested and open landscapes.

The clean air and tranquillity of Lëpushë make it a place to unwind and relax in nature. This means a stay need not focus solely on the hiking trails: those who want to spend time in peaceful natural surroundings will also find a suitable way to enjoy the area. Hiking and relaxation describe different sides of the place, rather than requiring every trip to have the same focus.

Food and Local Traditions

Traditional culinary experiences in Lëpushë are connected with the culture and traditions of the mountain region. One specific example is Guesthouse Trojani: the family-run business includes a farm whose organic produce is served at the adjoining guesthouse. Mishavina is the business’s signature product. If you are particularly interested in it, ask locally about current availability.

A local celebration is also part of cultural life in Lëpushë: it is called “Logu i Bjeshkëve”. If you would like to plan your trip around this celebration, check the dates in advance. This way, culinary experiences and the local celebration can be considered as separate travel interests, without equating them with hiking. Together, they offer a glimpse into the traditions of the mountain region, while the trails and landscape provide other ways to enjoy your stay.

When planning, the differences between the two hiking trails are especially clear: a circular route or a longer trek from Theth to Lëpushë, the approximate duration of the circular route and the length of each trail. Add your interest in mountain scenery, tranquillity or local culinary traditions to your choice. If a particular product or the celebration is important to your trip, confirm availability or dates in advance.
