Bahçallëk can be understood through its structures and transport connections: the Bahçallëk Bridge over the Drin, the older river crossing, and the mosque in the Bahçallek neighborhood each tell a different part of the area's history. For a stay focused on cultural history, the place therefore offers several distinct points of interest.

Bridge and Mosaic House

The Bahçallëk Bridge crosses the Drin and is a Category II cultural monument in Qark Shkodër. Near the bridge, on the right bank of the Drin, is an ancient house with a mosaic, which is a Category I cultural monument. This allows you to distinguish between two nearby but different points of interest: the bridge over the river and the Mosaic House on the riverbank.

The Older Bridge as a Historic Link

The old Bahçallëk Bridge was a five-arch stone bridge built in 1768 by Mehmet Pashë Bushati. The five arches describe its form; the year and name establish when and by whom it was built. The bridge connected the Bahçallëk and Tabakë neighborhoods and was also one of Shkodër's historic land routes to other parts of Albania. It therefore had a local role connecting two neighborhoods and a wider significance as a route. During Ottoman rule, a toll was charged to cross it; at night, it could be crossed only in emergencies. These rules relate to how the crossing was used at the time. Flooding destroyed the old stone arch bridge in 1880. In 1914, an Austrian planner built a metal bridge near it. This sequence distinguishes three events: the construction of the stone bridge, its destruction, and the later construction of the metal bridge nearby.

Mosque in the Bahçallek Neighborhood

Another historic point of interest is the Mosque of Mehmet Pashe Bushatlliu in the Bahçallek neighborhood. It was completed in 1773–1774. The distinction matters for the chronology: 1768 refers to the construction of the old bridge, while 1773–1774 refers to the completion of the mosque. The buildings date to a similar period, but the dates mark different events. The mosque is considered the only surviving building in Shkodër that was constructed during the Ottoman period. Its historical significance extends beyond the neighborhood and relates to Shkodër as a whole.

Transport Connection and Dated Event

In August 2026, a bus service ran from Bahçallëk via the center to Fermentim and back. On January 24, 2026, a sports education activity was held for students of the Mekteps Bahçallëk and Ajasëm. The event adds an education-related aspect to the architectural history.

Planning Your Trip

For choosing a destination, the bridge and mosque offer a cultural and historical focus; the bus service is a separate planning consideration. Check its current timetable before traveling, as service information can change. This makes it possible to consider the area's history and your journey separately.
