Kostræde Banker is characterized by a distinctly hilly dead-ice landscape. In the northern coastal area, salt meadows face Dybsø Fjord. Together with the open spaces and the wetland by the fjord, this landscape defines the character of the destination. For trip planning, the focus is clearly on nature, views and trails; the former Køng Mølle adds a historical element to the landscape.

Hilly landscape and open spaces

The elevations reach approximately 20 metres above sea level and stand about 15 metres above the surrounding terrain. The elevation of approximately 20 metres above sea level and the height difference of about 15 metres complement each other: one figure indicates the approximate elevation, while the other describes the difference from the surrounding area. This relative difference makes the pronounced hill formation easier to understand. Kostræde Banke also has an area of dry grassland that is grazed year-round for nature conservation. The hills and open spaces thus represent two distinct aspects of the landscape.

Salt meadows, fen and protected area

The salt meadows in the northern coastal area face Dybsø Fjord. Kviemarken is a natural area featuring salt meadow and nutrient-rich fen habitats. The two natural environments have different emphases: Kviemarken also includes fen as an additional habitat type, while the salt meadows in the coastal area are defined by their location facing the fjord. The protected area by Dybsø Fjord also includes land near Kostræde Banke. At the northern end of the banke there is also a privately protected area. It is the last remnant of the original open landscape that once covered the entire banke.

Path to the viewpoint

At Kostræde bakker, visitors can park by a small boat landing and walk up to a viewpoint with tables and benches. A path that is part of the Sjællandsleden also leads to the viewpoint from the small boat landing just before Kostræde Banker. From there, you can enjoy views of the fjord and the meadow. At the viewpoint at the northern end of Kostræde Banker, you can also watch birds by Dybsø Fjord and in the adjacent wetland. The view of the fjord and meadow thus connects the open landscape with the natural environment by the water. If you are planning a visit, check access in advance.

A historical trace

Køng Mølle once stood on Kostræde Banke. This former mill adds a specific cultural and historical connection to the nature-focused themes. It is one of the different aspects that make Kostræde Banker a destination, alongside its landscape and viewpoint.

The landscape as a travel decision

For trip planning, two main areas of interest can be distinguished: the banke, with its dry grassland and elevations, offers open, hilly terrain; Kviemarken and the coastal area bring salt meadows, fen and the fjord into focus. The path to the viewpoint adds a specific excursion destination to these nature-focused themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Kostræde Banker, you can consider whether these landscape interests will influence your choice of destination.
