If you are planning a trip to Vejle County, you will find a variety of highlights in Vejle: fjord landscapes, hiking trails, contemporary art and industrial culture. When planning your trip, it is worth considering both the theme and the length and type of the routes. This will help you choose the nature and cultural attractions described here according to the focus of your stay.

When looking for a hotel in Vejle County, you can first consider whether longer hikes, a city walk, art and architecture, or the fjord landscape will shape your trip. The routes vary considerably in length, providing a useful basis for comparison as you plan.

Fjord landscapes and valleys

The landscape around Vejle Fjord is shaped by calm waters and wooded beech-covered slopes. In some places, the slopes reach heights of up to 80 metres. The beaches at Tirsbæk, Ulbækhus and Daugård on Vejle Fjord offer places to relax, inviting swimming water and magnificent views. There is also a hiking trail by the lake at Kongens Kær.

The Højen Ådal offers a different kind of landscape: the Højen Å flows between steep, wooded slopes. The hilly terrain was shaped by powerful meltwater during the Ice Age. Here, the focus is on the valley, the river and how the landscape was formed. Vejle Ådal is also a destination along the 36-kilometre Bindeballestien.

Hiking and cycling

The self-guided city walk along Vejle Harbour and Fjord passes through the harbour and fjord district and is about 5.8 kilometres long. For a longer route, consider the marked Grejsdalstien, which runs for 16 kilometres between Vejle and Jelling. The route takes about three to five hours on foot. Travellers can take a train or bus between Vejle and Jelling for this route.

The Højen og Mølholm Ådale hiking trail is 19.3 kilometres long and clearly marked with orange arrows. Its route passes through both the city of Vejle and Vejle Ådal. You can hike or cycle along the 36-kilometre Bindeballestien through Vejle Ådal. Together with the shorter city walk, this gives you a broad range of routes from about 5.8 to 36 kilometres; an approximate walking time is also provided for Grejsdalstien. This makes it easy to compare the different route lengths and the available walking-time information when planning.

Art, architecture and industrial culture

Vejle Art Museum features contemporary art that addresses challenging social issues. Its exhibitions also include a large collection of graphic works. Fjordenhus, designed by Olafur Eliasson, stands on Vejle's waterfront promenade. Tours include Eliasson's artworks on the ground floor and an exhibition in the basement, which is not normally open to the public.

You can explore industrial history at Spinderihallerne. The renovated complex was originally a cotton mill dating from 1896 and is one of Vejle's best-preserved examples of industrial heritage. The large halls house the Vejlemuseerne's Culture Museum. It features temporary and permanent exhibitions on industrialisation in Vejle.

Another cultural destination, Økolariet focuses on climate, the Earth and sustainability. This knowledge and experience centre complements art and industrial history with a different range of topics. When planning your trip, you can combine these attractions with the trails and landscapes that best match your interests.
