Sundsøre combines walking trails by the Limfjord with nature, harbour activities and the historic Sundsøre Pakhus. The routes differ in their paths and destinations: one marked route runs from Skive to Sundsøre, while two others return to Sundsøre. There are also opportunities for nature watching, swimming in summer and trips on the fjord.

Walking between coast and fjord

The marked Lavvanderuten on the Blue Walk is a 22.4-kilometre point-to-point walking route between Skive and Sundsøre. It follows the Limfjord and passes coastal meadows and nutrient-poor grassland on the way to Sundsøre. The Sundsøre walking route starts at the car park on the headland just south of the ferry terminal. From there, it passes the harbour and follows the coast; the return route is via Hvalpsundvej.

The Lille Thise Sti starts at Sundsøre Havn and follows the water to a nature area near Gl. Børsting and back to Sundsøre. Along the way, a detour to a burial mound offers a beautiful view over the Limfjord. This route combines a waterside walk with a viewpoint and a destination in the nature area, while the Sundsøre walking route takes in the harbour and coast.

Nature and seasonal swimming

North of Sundsøre is an eight-hectare nature area with coastal meadows, nutrient-rich fens and heathland. Visitors may walk there, taking care to respect nature and the grazing cattle. Sundsøre Odde offers good opportunities to watch seals; check local conditions.

In summer, Sundsøre Strand has a bathing jetty, a simple ball-game area, and tables and benches. These add a place by the water with basic recreational facilities to the nature experiences. If you visit the harbour, you can also swim from the bathing jetties there; the sauna is another option at Sundsøre Havn.

Pakhus, Lindormen and local history

Sundsøre Pakhus is a historic warehouse dating from 1927. It was built as part of the goods station for the M/F Hvalpsund railway ferry. The freight wagons house unattended tourist information about the area and the history of rail transport, transportation and freight traffic.

A sculpture of the Lindormen, carved from oak in 2022, stands at Sundsøre Pakhus. Local legend also tells of this creature: according to the legend, the headland at Sundsøre is the Lindormen’s tail. The Pakhus thus brings together a piece of transport history and a local tale.

Harbour, ferry and refreshments

Sundsøre Lystbådehavn is next to the ferry terminal for the Hvalpsund–Sundsøre route and is well sheltered from westerly winds. The Limfjord – Sundsøre – Branden kayak route also starts at the harbour, next to the ferry terminal to Hvalpsund. At Sundsøre Havn, visitors can head out onto the fjord, swim from the bathing jetties and use the sauna. Check availability in advance.

The Hvalpsund-Sundsøre Færgefart ferry departs from Sundsøre at quarter past and quarter to every hour. As schedules may change, check departure times before crossing.

Brænderiet Limfjorden is a distillery in Sundsøre. Visitors can enjoy beer, whisky, rum, gin, schnapps and liqueur at the bar or on the terrace. Guided tours are available year-round by appointment and end with tastings of various products made on site. Arrange your visit before travelling.
