Højslev offers something for a variety of interests: Bronze Age burial mounds, a Romanesque church, outdoor trails and insights into the history of the region. When planning a stay, you can start by choosing your focus: cultural history, outdoor activities or a mix of both. The places and activities below illustrate these different options.

Burial mounds and views across the fjord landscape

Bruddal Høje is crowned by three striking Bronze Age burial mounds. From there, you can enjoy an impressive view across the Limfjord landscape, with Skive Fjord and Skive in the distance. Bruddal Høje also has a gate to the enclosure, as well as tables and benches where you can enjoy a picnic in a historic setting. Check the current condition of these facilities before your visit.

Trails, routes and recreation

At Stier Hald in Højslev, there are routes of 2.5, 4.9, 5.3 and 6.3 km. The two middle distances are close in length; the shortest and longest routes mark the two ends of the selection. Around the villages of Hjerteklyngen, many trails and routes are suitable for exploring on foot or by bicycle, from short walks to longer nature excursions. Unlike the routes, Hjerteparken offers space for recreation, play and community.

Church and historic architecture

Højslev Church is a Romanesque church with a nave, chancel and apse built of ashlar masonry. Ashlar masonry refers to masonry made from cut stone blocks. A rare Romanesque tombstone is set into the west wall of the porch. The nave, chancel and apse describe the basic elements of the building’s design, while the tombstone stands out as a detail within the church. In 1581, a funerary chapel for Bjørn Kaas and his wife Christence Rotfeld was established in Højslev Church. Højslev Church also served as the parish church for the Stårupgård estate.

It is a classic example of the Danish manor tradition, with buildings closely connected to the landscape, and is situated in a scenic setting by the Limfjord. In this way, insights into everyday and working life sit alongside the manor tradition as different perspectives on the region.
