Vildbjerg: Sports, Trails and Cultural History
Accommodation in Vildbjerg
Vildbjerg can be explored through several specific themes: the Vildbjerg Cup, held in 2026, swimming, trails and local history. Which of these matters for your trip depends on whether you are interested in a sporting event, being active or historical sites.
Sports and exercise
The Vildbjerg Cup was held for the 46th time in 2026. The 2026 edition was an international youth football tournament for boys and girls aged 7 to 17. Matches were played on 44 grass pitches around the Vildbjerg Sports- og Kulturcenter. The age groups and number of pitches refer to the 2026 edition; details of future editions may differ. If you are planning a stay for a later edition, check the information for that year.
Vildbjerg Svømmehal has a 25-metre pool. Vildbjerg Sports- og Kulturcenter offers family swimming as well as swimming and play activities; there is also outdoor fitness. Swimming schedules may change, so check the current programme in advance.
Trails and landscape
Vildbjerg has eight circular walking trails. The Skibbild-ruten starts at Vildbjerg Sports- og Kulturcenter and is about 18 km long. The starting point and route details may change; check current maps before setting out. The approximately 48 km Trehøje Bakker cycling route is suitable for recreational cyclists and is therefore considerably longer than the Skibbild-ruten.
Near Vildbjerg is Trehøje Bakke, a 102-metre-high viewpoint above one of the few large heathland areas remaining in Denmark. There are walking trails around Trehøje Bakke. The viewpoint and trails offer two different ways to experience the landscape: views across the heathland and walks in the surrounding area.
Local history and Vildbjerg Lund
The current Vildbjerg Kirke building dates from 1905; a church dating from the 12th century stood on the same site. The history of the site therefore goes back further than that of the present building. In Herning Municipality’s 2025 municipal plan, Vildbjerg Kirke is also designated as a cultural environment, a planning classification in addition to its architectural history. Den Gamle Smedie in Vildbjerg was built in 1904 and later converted into a museum.
Vildbjerg Lund is a site featuring 26 different tree species introduced from various parts of the world. In 1952, Vildbjerg Lund was moved to its current location on Østergade. The memorial stone commemorating reunification was also moved there at the same time. It stands on a mound made using earth from the original memorial mound. The use of this earth establishes a concrete link to the former memorial mound.
The open-air stage at Vildbjerg Lund can be used by anyone in Vildbjerg and the surrounding area and booked through the calendar on the Vildbjerg Lund website. Usage and booking conditions may change; check the current information before making plans.
