Ikast: Art, Culture and Outdoor Activities
Accommodation in Ikast
Ikast combines art and culture with outdoor activities. The local art venues offer concrete starting points for planning a stay: changing contemporary art exhibitions, individual works and a sculpture route each provide a different focus. There is also Bakkehuset, Ikast Tower and opportunities for cycling, hiking and golf. You can shape your stay around whether you want to explore art, visit a viewpoint or make time for physical activity.
Art and Sculptures
In its 2026 exhibition programme, KUNSTPAKHUSET in Ikast presents changing exhibitions of current Danish and international contemporary art. It is housed in a renovated former goods shed next to Ikast railway station. The former goods shed and its current use as an art centre bring together two time periods in one place: the architecture reflects the building’s former function, while the exhibitions put contemporary art centre stage.
The sculpture route in Frisenborgparken provides information about selected sculptures. It draws attention to several works, while “Arkitektonisk Element II” is a single work with a specific location. It is in Højrisparken on Bjørn Nørgaards Vej in Ikast and is part of the “Arkitektoniske Elementer” sculpture group. Its place in the group connects the work to a broader artistic context; the park and street also provide a precise location.
Ikast Church also combines a quiet visit with art. It is open daily to anyone who wants to visit the church or find a place for quiet reflection. A sculpture by Morten Stræde is displayed inside; it was unveiled in 2007 to mark the church’s 100th anniversary. If you are planning a visit, check access in advance, as opening arrangements may change.
Culture and Outdoor Activities
Bakkehuset complements the exhibition venues with events, hosting concerts and other activities. The venue is associated with Ikast Bio and the music school. This adds another cultural form to the visual arts, one more focused on events. If you want to plan your trip around a particular concert or activity, check the dates in advance.
The Ikast Route is 28.5 kilometres long and is suitable for all age groups. Its length gives you a concrete distance to plan for, while the age guidance describes who the route is intended for. The area around Ikast offers opportunities for cycling and hiking through scenic landscapes. Ikast Golf Club has an 18-hole course.
Ikast Tower
Ikast Tower was built in 1948 and is 20.5 metres high, offering views over Ikast. The tower was inaugurated together with Denmark’s first waterworks museum. A key for access to the viewing point can be hired for 50 kroner from Ikast Library. Before your visit, check whether the key arrangement is available.
