The bell tower of the Old Cemetery of Saint Apollinar was built in 1618 and is still considered a symbol of Dubašnica. The cemetery marks the site of the original parish church. The tower therefore also points to the history of this church site.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Routes

The local offering for hiking and running includes 50 kilometres of trails. One specifically named route is H114 – Cesta maslina: this 3-kilometre circular hiking trail starts in Porat. For mountain bikes, there is B413 – Srce Dubašnice. This 18-kilometre MTB loop covers 240 metres of elevation gain and starts and ends in Porat. The figures distinguish between the activities: H114 is the shorter hiking route, while B413 is described as an MTB route with elevation gain.

The MTB route B412 – Putevima svetaca runs from Sv. Vid through olive groves to the abandoned village of Sršići. In addition, the cycling routes of Dubašnica lead from the coast through centuries-old oak forests and olive groves inland. The Mihojski puti hiking trail connects history, natural landscapes and the cultural heritage of the island of Krk. These routes offer different ways to plan a trip: B412 has a named starting point and destination, while the themes of Mihojski puti are specified.

Sacred Sites and Cultural Heritage

The Chapel of Saint Andrew is the oldest surviving chapel in Dubašnica. It was originally Romanesque and dates from the 13th or 14th century. The Chapel of Saint Nicholas in Strilčići was built in the 14th or 15th century. Remains of wall paintings are preserved on its south wall and on the walls of the sanctuary. The two chapels offer different historical points of reference: the age and original architectural style of one are documented, while the surviving paintings form part of the description of the other.

The Franciscan Monastery of the Third Order is located in Porat. Its courtyard houses a lapidarium of Croatian Glagolitic stone monuments, including the Baška tablet, the Senj tablet, the Grdoselo fragment, the inscription from Krk and the Valun tablet. The present design of the outdoor area, with its cloister and central well, dates from the 17th century.

The Late Antique religious complex of Cickini was built in the 5th or 6th century. The permanent archaeological collection at Cickini in Sv. Vid-Miholjice offers another perspective on archaeological history. It displays fragments of stone liturgical furnishings and decorated architectural sculptures. The complex and the collection thus represent two different ways of encountering history: a Late Antique religious building and exhibited stone furnishings.

The House of Dubašnica Heritage is an old rural dwelling built around the middle of the 19th century for two families. Workshops are held there on traditional gastronomy, forgotten skills, traditional music and the Glagolitic alphabet. Check which workshops are available during your visit before travelling.

Coast, Seafaring and Traditions

The beaches in the Municipality of Malinska-Dubašnica are connected by several promenades. The DUBoak Maritime Heritage Centre is located on the Malinska waterfront promenade. This is the historic place from which ships loaded with timber set sail for Venice and nearby Rijeka. Here, the present-day waterfront promenade meets the history of the timber trade by sea.

Another aspect of local culture is Sensa, a long-standing tradition in Dubašnica. It includes a shepherds’ race for cheese, popularly known as “Teć za sir”.

At the same time, the municipality offers more than one perspective on a stay: alongside hiking and cycling routes, there are sacred sites, archaeological remains, maritime history and local traditions.
