In Mihanići, hiking routes meet traces of historic infrastructure. Two trail profiles are particularly useful for planning your trip: the marked route towards Kuna and Snježnica, and the Ćiro Trail from Vojski do to Mihanići. There is also the former railway section with the Mihanići Tunnel and a tasting experience on a shaded terrace. You can therefore base your choices on hiking, the history of technology and local products.

Hiking from Mihanići

A marked hiking trail connects Mihanići with Kuna and Snježnica. The longest marked trail to Sniježnica also starts in Mihanići; its starting point is approximately 300 metres above sea level. The ascent begins through a very narrow corridor and passes through rock crevices in places. Much of the climb follows an Austro-Hungarian route from the early 20th century, which was built to transport cannons to Saint Elias. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out on your hike.

The Ćiro Trail in comparison

The Ćiro Trail runs from Vojski do to Mihanići and is about 3.5 kilometres long. It is flat; allow around 30 to 40 minutes each way. As the distance and duration are approximate, adjust the time to your own pace. Along the trail, you can enjoy views of the hills and the Konavle field, villages and the sea. The trailhead is signposted, and parking is available there. Check conditions before travelling, as infrastructure may change. The differences are clear when comparing it with the Sniježnica route: the Ćiro Trail is notable for its flat terrain and approximate walking time, while the Sniježnica ascent is characterised by its narrow, rocky beginning and historic cannon route.

Railway and aqueduct history

The Mihanići Tunnel is 417 metres long and cut into the rock. There is a drinking-water spring inside the tunnel; access conditions may vary, so check the situation before visiting. The tunnel was the most challenging structure on the railway section that ended in Montenegro. The Mihanići section of the former railway is considered an outstanding industrial monument from the late 19th century. Another trace of historic infrastructure is the water supply route of the Epidaurian Aqueduct, which passes through Mihanići between Pridvorje and Gabrile. The railway and aqueduct represent different forms of historic infrastructure and offer distinct perspectives on the history of technology in the area.
