Discover Šeganovac: Cultural Heritage and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Šeganovac
Discover Šeganovac through the historical and archaeological traces in the village, as well as cycling and hiking routes that pass through Šeganovac. When planning your trip, it is also important to keep the scale in mind: the village has its own cultural and route connections; the national park and other nature experiences belong to the wider destination of Općina Plitvička Jezera.
Historical and Archaeological Traces
Historical sites in Šeganovac include a ruined forge, mill foundations, and a dated cistern. These structural traces stand alongside Borje, a memorial site with a NOB memorial plaque. The archaeological site of Kovrčni brdeljak is also located in Šeganovac.
Cycling and Hiking Routes
The Along Fields Trail is a 16.5-kilometre cycling route. It starts and ends in Korenica and passes through Šeganovac. This distance refers to the entire route; Šeganovac lies along the route, while the start and finish are in Korenica.
A hiking route also passes through Šeganovac: the Long Hiking Round Trip from Korenica via Mihaljevac, Šeganovac, and Ponor Korenički.
Landscape and Orientation
Municipal planning places Šeganovac within the landscape along the Matica between Vrelo and Ponor Korenički. The municipal spatial plan identifies a protection measure for this landscape area. The village is therefore also part of a broader landscape context identified in the spatial plan.
Two local road connections are also named: LC 59066 connects Šeganovac with Korenica, and LC 59067 connects it with Gradina Korenička.
The Wider Destination of Općina Plitvička Jezera
Općina Plitvička Jezera is considered a meeting point of mountain landscapes and a rich water heritage. Plitvice Lakes National Park lies at the heart of Općina Plitvička Jezera. This is a broader regional context alongside Šeganovac’s cultural and route connections.
Plitvice Lakes National Park was declared Croatia’s first national park on 8 April 1949. On 26 October 1979, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List because of the outstanding universal value of its tufa formation process. The national park’s forests are home to bears, wolves, and many rare bird species. These historical and landscape features offer a distinct perspective on the wider destination.
Gola Plješevica is one of the hiking and educational leisure trails in Općina Plitvička Jezera. The Čorkova Bay Trail is 21 kilometres long. The national park is open 365 days a year; opening hours for the public vary by season. Check the current hours before your visit so you can plan around the seasonal opening times.
Organized visitor groups can reach Čorkova Uvala only using transport organized by the park, and must be accompanied by a ranger. This requirement applies to organized groups.
