Ličko Petrovo Selo: Textile Craft and Culture
Accommodation in Ličko Petrovo Selo
Ličko Petrovo Selo offers a distinctive cultural experience: at the entrance to the village, the ethnographic space run by the Tara association welcomes tourists. It showcases local textile handicrafts, including traditional socks, slippers, scarves, and the knitted Nakurnjak, which is now made as a souvenir.
The Via Dinarica Green Line also reaches Ličko Petrovo Selo: it first passes through the Plitvice Lakes area and continues across the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the time of assessment, infrastructure for hikers and tourists was inadequate along the long stretch south of Ogulin towards Plitvice. Since infrastructure can change, check the latest conditions before setting out on a tour.

Plitvice Lakes National Park is located in the centre of Općina Plitvička Jezera. The municipality is considered a meeting point of mountain landscapes and a rich water heritage. The national park was declared Croatia’s first national park on 8 April 1949. On 26 October 1979, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List for the outstanding universal value of its tufa-forming process. These two dates refer to different aspects: the park’s national protection history and its later recognition as a World Heritage site. Bears, wolves, and many rare bird species live in the park’s forests.
The time of year is important when planning a visit to the park: the national park is open 365 days a year, but public opening hours vary by season. Check the hours for your planned visit. Organised visitor groups can reach Čorkova Uvala only using transport arranged by the park; groups must also be accompanied by a ranger.
Ways to visit the national park
The Plitvice train serves visitors travelling within the national park. Its 6.5-kilometre route runs from Rapajinka via Velika Poljana to Labudovac. The park also has eight electric boats; the longer ride across Lake Kozjak takes 20 minutes. Fleet details may change, so it is advisable to check the information before your trip.
At Kupalište (P1) on Lake Kozjak, visitors can rent wooden rowing boats. Rowing is permitted only on Lake Kozjak; check whether rentals are available before your trip. The park’s activities also differ in their requirements: wooden boats are limited by rental availability and the body of water where they may be used, while organised groups travelling to Čorkova Uvala are required to use transport and have a ranger accompany them.
Those interested in longer routes can consider the 21-kilometre Čorkova Bay Trail. The Oko Mrsinja cycle route runs mostly in the area surrounding the national park, with some sections entering it. Thematic guided tours on geology, biology, forestry, the lakes, and other topics can be arranged with park experts; availability depends on arrangements with the park.
Practical arrangements for park activities depend on the specific offering: opening hours vary seasonally, special requirements apply to group visits to Čorkova Uvala, and the availability of rowing boats should be checked in advance.
