Pavel Banya offers a variety of reasons to visit: healing mineral waters, Bulgarian oil rose cultivation, and cultural and natural sites in Turia. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can start by asking yourself which of these appeals to you most.

Mineral Springs and Rose-Growing Traditions

Pavel Banya is known for its healing mineral waters, which come from seven natural boreholes. Their average temperatures range from 51 to 63 °C. The springs give the destination a clear focus.

Another defining feature is the cultivation of Bulgarian oil roses: more than 5,000 decares are cultivated within the municipality. The municipality also has nine operating rose distilleries. Two of them demonstrate traditional rose-distillation methods and are open to tourists. Cultivation and distillation represent two distinct aspects of the rose-growing tradition: agricultural land within the municipality and the processing methods visitors can discover at these two distilleries.

Turia: Village History and Tradition

Turia offers a direct connection to local cultural history. Dimitar Chorbadzhiyski, known as Chudomir, was born here. The community center houses an ethnographic museum with a valuable collection on the village’s history and ethnography. Two distinct threads lead to Turia: the biographical connection to Chudomir and the collection devoted to the village itself.

The municipal Kukeri games festival “Starzi v Turia” is also associated with Turia. Together with the museum, it is one of the area’s cultural highlights, though the two tell different stories: the museum focuses on the village’s history and ethnography, while the festival celebrates the Kukeri games.

Natural Attractions near Turia

The natural landmark Pirostiyata lies above Turia. It consists of three large upright stones and another stone resting on top of them. Even during a drought, the stone lying on top contains water—an unusual detail of this rock formation.

The more than 700-year-old hornbeam “Kichest gabăr” near Turia is also considered a natural landmark. The two sites represent different natural features: at Pirostiyata, the striking arrangement of large stones makes an impression; at Kichest gabăr, it is the great age of a single tree. In Turia, a river flowing beneath a bridge also forms the small waterfall “Skokat.”

Mountain Setting and Further Points of Interest

Another way to explore the landscape is from the “Rusalka” mountain hut in the Central Balkan Mountains. It is located just above Tazha and close to the entrance to Central Balkan National Park. Its mountain location, position above Tazha, and proximity to the park entrance are all clearly defined.

The municipality of Pavel Banya is also part of the history of the biosphere reserve: when the Central Balkan UNESCO Biosphere Reserve was designated in 2017, the municipality was included as one of five municipalities under the “Man and the Biosphere” programme.

For a different kind of stay, the local tourism information service lists the mouth of the Koprinka Reservoir as two kilometers from Pavel Banya. It describes the reservoir as suitable for holidays, camping, picnics, walks, water sports, sunbathing, and fishing. Water conditions and facilities may vary.
