If you’re looking for a hotel in Dünserberg, you can get a sense of the destination from its elevation, views, and history. The Gerachhaus is also a specific place to stay, offering rooms and spacious shared dormitories with mattresses. When choosing a hotel, you should also consider the details of each individual listing; the characteristics of the area can help you assess the destination itself.

Elevation and orientation

Dünserberg lies on the Hochgerach slope at an elevation of 850 to 1,850 metres. The Gerachhaus is located at 1,560 metres above sea level in the mountain scenery of Dünserberg. These figures describe two different things: an elevation range for the area and a specific altitude for the Gerachhaus. The two elevation limits for the area are 1,000 metres apart; at 1,560 metres, the Gerachhaus is in the upper part of that range.

The Gerachhaus and choosing a hotel

The Gerachhaus offers rooms and spacious shared dormitories with mattresses; advance booking is required. If you’d like to stay there, plan for both your preferred type of accommodation and the advance booking. When looking for a hotel, compare the features of each specific listing, such as the room type, listed amenities, and conditions. The general mountain setting of Dünserberg does not replace these details.

Views and mountain biking

From the Gerachhaus, the view stretches from the Silvretta massif across the Rätikon to the Säntis; from Dünserberg, you can also see the Rätikon and its snow-covered peaks. The difference is in the focus: the panorama from the Gerachhaus extends as far as the Säntis, while from Dünserberg the Rätikon and its snow-covered peaks take centre stage. Dünserberg also has a well-developed mountain bike trail network. If you’re mainly interested in the landscape from a cycling perspective, you can consider the trail network as a separate factor when choosing your destination.

History in chronological order

The area that now forms the municipality of Dünserberg was settled around 1300 by Walser people from the Swiss canton of Valais. The Chapel of St. Benedict was built in 1886 by the residents of Bischa and has a licence to hold Mass. The Chapel of St. Wolfgang was renovated in June 1933. Around 1300 was several centuries before 1886, and the 1933 renovation came after the Chapel of St. Benedict was built. This gives a brief sequence of early settlement, chapel construction, and later renovation.

Food and daily specials

The Henslerstüble offers a small selection of popular dishes as well as daily specials. If you’d like to plan your trip around a specific dining option as well as the landscape and history, you can take this into account.

Note on bus planning

During the summer months, the “hiking and swimming bus” ran to the Nenzing swimming pool and the “Älpele” alpine pasture in Dünserberg. If you’re considering this connection for your trip, check whether it operates on your travel dates.
