If you are considering an overnight stay in Göfis, you can choose your destination based on different interests: Gasserplatz focuses on wetlands and moorland plants, Heidenburg and the ruins of Sigberg offer historical perspectives, and Sunnahof offers alpaca hikes, guided tours and a “School on the Farm” programme. This gives you the opportunity to consider whether nature, archaeological history or a specific visitor activity should shape your stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Göfis, these themes can help guide your choice of destination.

Moorland at Gasserplatz

The Gasserplatz nature reserve is a wetland designated as a fen and transitional mire, providing a habitat for rare moorland plants. The southern part of Gasserplatz can be reached via the state road from Göfis-Hofen towards Feldkirch and has been designed as a place to relax and spend time. The distinction is practical: the nature description refers to the wetland, while the access route and design relate to the southern part.

Heidenburg: two hilltops, different eras

East of Göfis lies the ridge on which the so-called Heidenburg is situated. It was used from the Bronze Age through the Roman period and again in the High Middle Ages. The southern hilltop was the site of a late Roman fortification, which was expanded in at least two construction phases. On the northern hilltop are the remains of a medieval castle, including a slightly rectangular, keep-like tower with relatively thick walls and a polygonal curtain wall. The two hilltops help distinguish between the different eras: the fortification belongs to the late Roman period, while the castle remains are medieval. “Keep-like” describes the shape of the tower, and “polygonal” refers to the many-sided shape of the curtain wall.

Sigberg and its restoration history

Another historical landmark is the ruins of Sigberg above the Ill crossing between Frastanz and Göfis. They were restored four times between 2001 and 2008; a recreation area was also created at the ruins. For comparison when planning your trip: Heidenburg represents several phases of historical use, while Sigberg is associated with four restoration projects between 2001 and 2008 and the recreation area that was created.

Activities at Sunnahof

Sunnahof in Göfis offers alpaca hikes and guided tours, as well as a “School on the Farm” programme. These three options give your trip a different focus from the moorland or archaeological remains: you can make a hike, a guided tour or the farm programme mentioned above a particular interest. If one of these is important for your travel dates, check dates and booking conditions directly with the provider.

Bus route 67 as a guide

Bus route 67 runs from Feldkirch railway station via Göfis to Rankweil railway station and back. For your arrival or onward journey, the route therefore provides a direct connection to two railway stations and a route through Göfis. Check the current timetable before travelling if you want to include suitable departures in your plans.
