Lermoos lies at the foot of the Grubigstein and is known for its beautiful views of the Wetterstein massif. You can choose from a range of activities when planning your day: the Moosle’s Explorer Trail links activity stations with a downhill route, Moosle’s Enchanted Forest is an interactive play and adventure trail, and the Lermoos–Ehrwald Panorama Trail begins at the train station. The listed parish church of St. Catherine rounds out the offering. This lets you tailor your stay to outdoor activity, shared experiences or a cultural focus.

Hiking on the Grubigstein

The Grubigsteinbahn carries passengers from Lermoos in two sections up to an altitude of 2,028 metres. The Moosle’s Explorer Trail begins at its mid-station at 1,338 metres and leads downhill to Lermoos along forest and meadow paths. It is easy, 2.7 kilometres long and listed as taking about an hour to walk. The altitude figures refer to two different points: 2,028 metres marks the height reached by the lift; 1,338 metres is the starting point of the Explorer Trail. The length, difficulty rating and approximate walking time answer different planning questions: what distance lies ahead, how the route is rated and roughly how much time to allow. If you plan to reach the starting point by lift, check the seasonal operating schedule of the Grubigsteinbahn in advance.

Play and adventure trails

The Moosle’s Explorer Trail has seven activity stations and offers fun and entertainment for the whole family against the backdrop of the Grubigstein. Moosle’s Enchanted Forest is an interactive play and adventure trail with nine stations for children and adults. When comparing them, consider not only the number of stations but also the formats: the Explorer Trail links its stations with an easy, roughly one-hour downhill route; the Enchanted Forest focuses on an interactive play and adventure experience. This lets you choose based on whether walking the route or exploring the interactive stations is the main focus of your day.

Another starting point

The Lermoos–Ehrwald Panorama Trail begins at Lermoos train station. This gives you two different reference points for planning a route in Lermoos: the train station for the Panorama Trail and the mid-station of the Grubigsteinbahn for the Moosle’s Explorer Trail. For the Explorer Trail, you can also take the approximate walking time and the downhill route to Lermoos into account when planning your day.

Church and architectural history

The Catholic Parish Church of St. Catherine adds an architectural highlight to your stay. It is a listed building in Lermoos and a later offshoot of the Füssen School of Architecture; taken as a whole, it forms a beautiful Rococo ensemble. Its shell was built between 1751 and 1754, and the tower was remodelled between 1761 and 1768. The building history thus distinguishes the shell from the later remodelling of the tower. The church adds its own cultural focus to the trails and play stations.
