Bschlabs lies on the sunny slope of the Bschlaber Valley. When planning a stay, you can consider the local attractions on two levels: trails and culture lead to specific places in the municipality, while Hahntennjoch provides a regional connection between the Inn Valley and the Lech Valley. This can help you decide whether your trip should focus more on artistic displays, hamlets and the chapel, or on the pass.

Trails between art and hamlets

The Way of the Senses begins in Bschlabs at the hiking car parks behind the municipal and fire station building. It passes through the Hölltal Gorge and features texts, sculptures, Bible verses and depictions of local traditions, created by local artists. The route thus combines a walk through the gorge with artworks and motifs drawn from local tradition. If you are especially interested in artistic design and local traditions on a trail, this route offers a clear thematic focus.

The Bschlabs hamlet loop passes through the hamlets belonging to Bschlabs: Taschach, Egg, Zwieseln, Sack, Aschlen, Windegg and Mitterhof. The list of names makes several of the municipality’s hamlets reference points along the circular route. The trail is also called the “Bschlabs hamlet loop – Martinskapelle circular trail” and passes old mountain farms. These farms add a distinctive feature along the route to the place names. The hamlet loop therefore has a different focus from the artistic and tradition-related displays on the Way of the Senses.

Martinskapelle and the old footpath

Martinskapelle is located at the place known as Gröbenegg, in the hamlet of Aschlen near Bschlabs, on the old footpath from Elmen to Bschlabs. Its location connects it both to the hamlets of Bschlabs and to the route between two villages. Aschlen is also one of the hamlets on the loop. You therefore encounter the same hamlet in two contexts: as part of the circular route and as the site of Martinskapelle. The old footpath is a distinct geographical reference that places the chapel between Elmen and Bschlabs.

Hahntennjoch: mountain pass and road connection

Hahntennjoch, also known as “Hahntennen”, is a mountain pass at an altitude of 1,894 m, connecting the Inn Valley with the Lech Valley. These two valley connections set the pass apart geographically from the local trail attractions in Bschlabs. From the top of the pass, State Road 72 runs for 5.2 km through the summer settlement of Pfafflar, at 1,619 m, to Bschlaber State Road 266. The stated elevations and road section provide a specific geographical context for the pass.

Due to the risk of avalanches, Hahntennjoch Road is generally closed in winter. The closure runs from late autumn until around May or June; check the current road status before setting out. Comparing the two trails, the Way of the Senses focuses on art and local traditions, while the hamlet loop highlights the named hamlets and old mountain farms. Martinskapelle is a distinct site with a specific geographical location; for Hahntennjoch, the seasonal road closure is an important planning consideration.
