Gramais: Mountain Lakes, Hiking Trails and Village History
Accommodation in Gramais
Gramais is a starting point for numerous hikes and mountain tours, as well as walks and walking tours. Well-marked and regularly maintained hiking trails lead to the surrounding peaks and through dense green forests. Specific destinations, altitude details and approximate walking times provide different points of reference for planning. Climbing and a winter cross-country ski trail are also among the activities described.
Hiking Trails and Mountain Lakes
Among the named destinations is RoĂźkarsee, at an altitude of 2,123 metres. It can be reached from Gramais in about three hours; the actual walking time may vary depending on conditions. The Schafkarsee, at 2,000 metres, can also be visited on the way from Gramais to RoĂźkarsee. This places two specific lakes along the same described route: RoĂźkarsee provides a reference point in terms of approximate time, while Schafkarsee is another place to visit along the way.
Kogelsee and Gufelsee are also distinguished by their stated features. Kogelsee is the largest of five mountain lakes in the mountain landscape at the foot of Kogelseespitze. Gufelsee is notable for its altitude of 2,300 metres and its deep blue water. This allows you to compare mountain lakes from different perspectives: Kogelsee by its size within the group of lakes, and Gufelsee by its altitude and water colour.
Mountain Tours and Climbing
The Lechtaler Höhenweg can be reached directly from Gramais on a day tour and is connected to numerous Alpine Club huts. This tour involves high-alpine conditions and corresponding equipment requirements. This is a different planning framework from the approximate time given for Roßkarsee: for the Höhenweg, its high-alpine setting and the required equipment are important points of reference.
The “Mühlschrofen” climbing garden is located directly in a wildlife sanctuary. Climbing season is therefore limited to the period from 15 May to 15 October; check local conditions before climbing. If you are looking for a course, you can book climbing courses for all levels at Bergschule Lechtal. Confirm availability before your trip.
Village History, Winter and Getting There
The Catholic parish church of St John the Baptist was rebuilt from 1824 to 1832 and is protected as a listed building by ordinance. Its construction period and protected status provide a distinct point of reference for the village’s history, alongside its mountain and hiking destinations. Gramais is also part of the Tiroler Lech Nature Park.
In winter, the Gramaiser circular cross-country ski trail offers a way to explore the municipal area and the atmosphere of the mountain village. Its preparation depends on snow conditions. Gramais can be reached from Häselgehr via a well-maintained road; road conditions may vary seasonally. The Gramais hiking bus operates only in summer. If you would like to include it in your plans, check the linked timetable before your trip.
