Jungholz: Hiking Trails and Winter Experiences

With hiking trails, a practice area in the snow and a guided herb walk, Jungholz offers various options for planning your day. The specific times and starting points help you distinguish between tours. Winter activities also have their own access requirement: You need a valid lift pass to use the Snow Learnland.

Choose hiking trails by duration and route

The Jungholz Letter Trail is a moderately difficult themed trail covering 7.36 kilometres; its listed duration is 2 hours and 5 minutes. The winter hike from Jungholz via Reuterwanne and Alpe Stubental and back is also considered moderately difficult. It takes about three hours.

Both trails are moderately difficult, but differ in season, route and time required. If you allow just over two hours for a tour, the Letter Trail’s listed duration fits that timeframe closely; allow about three hours for the winter loop. The duration of the winter hike is an estimate.

The winter hike offers views of the Wertach Valley and the summit of Sorgschrofen. Another hike leads from Jungholz to Alpe Stubental: after about an hour, you reach the alp, where good food and drinks are available. The times refer to different planning considerations: for this hike, it is about an hour to reach the alp; for the winter hike, it is about three hours for the loop.

Explore winter activities

The Snow Learnland is next to the car park and is a practice area. People with a valid lift pass can learn and practise their first turns in the snow there. The focus here is on practising in the snow, while the winter hike via Reuterwanne and Alpe Stubental is a walking tour. This lets you distinguish between the two different focuses of a winter’s day without assuming they have the same requirements.

Parish church and herb walk

The present-day Jungholz parish church was consecrated in 1789. It is also the meeting point for a guided herb walk. Dates are scheduled for 2026; check the specific dates before your trip before making firm plans to attend. The parish church thus has two distinct connections: its consecration provides historical context for the present-day church, while the meeting point is for the herb walk.
