When looking for a hotel in Höfen, the landscape is a good place to start: the village lies between the turquoise Lech and the gentle slopes of the Hahnenkamm. Höfen extends up to the 1,938-metre summit. The river and mountain therefore help define the village’s geographical setting. Consider whether you want your trip to focus primarily on high-altitude trails, winter sports, nature experiences or culture.

Mountain scenery and trails around Höfen

The modern Hahnenkamm cable car is an eight-person circulating gondola lift. It takes visitors up to the Hahnenkamm near Reutte, at an elevation of 1,700 metres, and into the mountain scenery of the Hahnenkamm. The elevations provide two distinct points of reference: the cable car goes up to 1,700 metres, while the summit reaches 1,938 metres.

The hiking area near Höfen includes extensive terrain with well-developed high-altitude trails. At the Hahnenkamm, the Alpine Garden offers a chance to experience alpine flora up close; the garden is accessible. The mountain lake at the Hahnenkamm offers panoramic views. Each setting offers a different kind of nature experience: plants in the garden, views at the mountain lake and hiking on the high-altitude trails.

The Lech Cycle Path also runs directly through Höfen. Cycling and hiking can therefore be just as much a focus of a trip as time spent in the mountains. You can arrange these themes according to your own interests, without any one activity defining the character of the village entirely.

Winter sports and culture

For planning a winter trip, the winter sports area associated with Höfen offers a specific point of reference: it has 16 kilometres of impeccably groomed pistes. These kilometres of pistes offer a different focus from the high-altitude trails and the Lech Cycle Path. When choosing when to travel, you can first decide whether winter sports or activities in the warmer months should be the deciding factor.

The “Hangar SW” museum in Höfen features changing exhibitions and hosts events. This adds another cultural dimension alongside the historic buildings. While the chapels and little church can be traced through their construction dates, the museum focuses on changing exhibitions and events.

The masonry Maria-Hilf church was built in 1692. The ceiling painting inside it was created in 1801 by church painter Josef Anton Köpfle. The building and its decoration therefore mark two distinct moments in the history of the same building, separated by just over a century. The Marienkapelle chapel on the Platten was built in 1876, adding another construction date to this historical perspective.

Events throughout the year

Seasonal events include Tyrolean evenings at the Hahnenkammhalle and the Schafschied. The Tyrolean evenings are a summer tradition held weekly; the Schafschied is one of Höfen’s traditional autumn events. The two occasions offer different seasonal highlights. If a particular evening or the Schafschied is important to your trip, check the current event dates in advance.

When choosing a hotel, you can start with your own interests and include the different sides of the village in your travel plans.
