Zams combines a distinctive townscape with specific themes for hiking and cycling trips. A circular trail leads through Zammer Lochputz; family hikes and summit tours start at the top station of the Venetbahn; the E5 and the Way of St. James lead to Zams.

Water and Rock at Zammer Lochputz

The circular trail through Zammer Lochputz passes, among other things, a ruined forge, the Mirror Cave and a stone bull shaped by water from the rock. The experience also includes a water fountain, the Lötzer waterfall, a long tunnel, the Roman Tower and a Kneipp pool. A tour of the demonstration power plant is also possible.

This offers everything from striking rock formations and water to an insight into technology. Zammer Loch itself is one of the most beautiful mountain valleys in Europe.

Hiking Trails with Different Routes

Easy family hikes and more challenging summit tours both start at the top station of the Venetbahn. The challenging long-distance hiking trail E5 leads from the Memminger HĂĽtte via the Seescharte at 2,599 metres through Zammer Loch to Zams.

From Zams, the E5 leads along the Wiesensteig to Zammer Alm and Schihütte Zams, continues to the top station of the Venetbahn, then via Glanderspitze at 2,505 metres and Wannejöchl at 2,495 metres to Larcher Alm and on to Wenns in the Pitztal. The Way of St. James takes a different route: it leads from Kronburg via Rifenal and Anreit down to the centre of Zams.

Another specific route is the Rolli-Weg Innradweg. It is wheelchair accessible and runs along the Innradweg to the Patscheid meadows below Kronburg.

The Campanile and the History of the Parish Church

The townscape of Zams is defined by the surviving tower of the Parish Church of St. Andrew. It stands as a free-standing campanile, meaning a bell tower that is not directly attached to the church building. The church has a long and eventful building history: after the great fire of 1911, it was rebuilt the following year as an enclosed hall church with a deep transept. Its stylistic model was the Baroque. The solemn consecration took place on 10 June 1913.

By contrast, the campanile is the defining architectural feature of the parish church today.

Cycling the Innradweg R3

A route connected with Zams is also named for cycling visitors: the Innradweg R3 follows an approximately 51-kilometre section from Landeck via Zams, Schönwies and Imst to Telfs. A mountain bike tour starts at the valley station of the Venetbahn in Zams and leads via Landeck Castle, the historic Via Claudia Augusta and Fließ to the top station of the Venetbahn at 2,212 m.
