Herrnbaumgarten offers a range of reasons to stay: museums with unusual and historical exhibits, wine cellar lanes and wine experiences, as well as several route options. Your personal interests may therefore influence your choice of hotel—a cultural visit calls for different priorities than plans centered on wine or hiking. The specific features of the area can help you shape your stay.

Museums with a range of themes

The Nonseum in Herrnbaumgarten displays 487.3 “borderline ingenious” inventions that are not needed. The precise figure and the description of them as unnecessary give the museum a clear thematic focus: it is about inventions with no practical purpose. The Nonseum also includes the outdoor Nonsense Educational Garden and a cinema auditorium.

The kitchen museum displays fully furnished kitchens from 1900 to 1970. If you are interested in historical everyday culture, this period offers a specific focus. The grocer’s museum preserves the original inventory of the Vermischte Warenhandlung Brüger general store, founded in 1877. At the cinema museum, you can see restored sound-film equipment spanning a century of cinema history. The themes thus range from kitchens from a clearly defined period, to the inventory of a historic shop, to the history of sound film.

Wine cellar lanes and wine

Herrnbaumgarten has six different wine cellar lanes. Schindergasse runs through a loamy hollow way. Its features include masonry cellar entrances, some cellars that are overgrown or have collapsed, and restored press houses. The lane therefore brings together buildings in various states of preservation.

The Schindergassenfest takes place in Schindergasse every year in June. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check the specific date before travelling.

At the Labyrinthkeller Umschaid, you can take part in wine tastings in a connected underground cellar system. The Herrnbaumgarten wine shop offers more than 50 wines, juices, spirits, and sparkling or semi-sparkling wines. Visitors can enjoy wine or grape juice there together with a winemaker. This gives you a choice of different wine experiences: a tasting in an underground cellar system, or sharing a drink with a winemaker at the wine shop.

Trails and named stops

There is a short and a long Nordic walking route, both starting at the Schreiberhaus. You can therefore choose between two differently designated options without changing the starting point.

The Ehret den Sock hiking trail leads to the large Sockenweingarten vineyard, the Steinberg Chapel, through a hollow way to the Antonius Chapel, and to a wine cellar lane in Herrnbaumgarten. The 3-Schwestern-Weg connects the wine-growing towns of Falkenstein, Poysdorf and Herrnbaumgarten. For planning purposes, these trails differ in their respective points of reference: the Nordic walking routes offer a short or long option with the same starting point; the Ehret den Sock hiking trail has named stops; and the 3-Schwestern-Weg connects three wine-growing towns.
