Gols lies on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, surrounded by an extensive wine-growing region. Almost half of the municipality’s 4,223 hectares are planted with grapevines. Wine thus shapes the character of the town and offers a clear focus for a stay: alongside a circular trail, there are wine tastings and information about Gols wine.

Wine Country and the WineKulturHaus

At the WineKulturHaus Gols, wine lovers can taste wines and learn about the traditions, innovation and culture of Gols wine. More than 90 winegrowers and over 400 wines are represented there; the selection may change over time. The centre is housed in the oldest building in Gols, which has been restored and revitalised with contemporary architecture and pioneering design. Wine tasting, information and the history of a renewed historic building thus come together in one place.

Wine Trails and Viewpoints

The WeinWegGols is a 9.8-kilometre circular trail that starts and ends at the WineKulturHaus Gols. As route details may change, check the latest information before setting off. The Ungerberg viewing platform on the WeinWegGols serves as a rest stop and features an information board and views across Gols’s vineyards to Lake Neusiedl. The Salzberg viewing platform on the WeinWegGols is also a place to rest, enjoy a snack and linger.

On the WEINWANDERWEG, winegrowers guide visitors through the top vineyard sites. They explain their work and how outstanding wines are made in harmony with nature. Gols therefore offers both a circular trail with a designated start and finish and an opportunity to explore the wine country with explanations from the winegrowers at its heart.

Museum and Sculpture Trail

The Erwin Moser Museum has a permanent home in the historic setting of the WineKulturHaus in the centre of Gols. In three exhibition rooms, it presents 65 pictures, sketches, manuscripts and translations by Erwin Moser, the children’s author and illustrator from Gols. If you are planning a museum visit, check the latest visitor information beforehand.

Since 1995, Gols’s VIP Park has been set within a biotope. Sculptures of more or less famous personalities line the path. A sculpture trail and its setting within a biotope are therefore among the experiences described in the town.

Folk Festival and Leisure Pool

The Gols folk festival takes place every year during the week around 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, as well as on the preceding weekend. The festival features a family and trade fair, concerts and dancing, a wine tasting and an amusement park. Individual events may vary. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant year.

The family-friendly Aquasplash Gols leisure and adventure pool offers a long slide, a speed slide, a wild-water channel, a 25-metre pool and an area for toddlers. As the facilities may change due to renovations, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.
