Mogelsberg: Necki Trail, Treetop Walk and Culture
Accommodation in Mogelsberg
Mogelsberg lies in the Neckertal above the River Necker. The village is 755 metres above sea level. Trails through meadows and forests, the Neckertal Treetop Walk and a cultural programme featuring music, cabaret and theatre offer different perspectives on a stay here. You can choose what to explore based on the landscape, a specific activity or an evening of culture.
It is worth distinguishing between the different elevations: 755 metres above sea level refers to the village’s location. The former municipality extended from the River Necker at 600 metres to the Wilkethöchi at 1,175 metres above sea level. This former municipal range covers a larger area than the village elevation; the two figures refer to different geographical scales.
Trails through the Neckertal
The Necki Trail is a circular route divided into six stages, crossing meadows and passing through forests. It crosses various bridges and footbridges and passes streams and rapids on the way to scenic spots in the Neckertal. This family-friendly trail offers lovely places to stop and rest. The six stages divide the circular route into sections, so you can think of it as a sequence of individual stretches.
The Mogelsberg Culture Route takes a different approach: it crosses a covered wooden bridge. The Necki Trail focuses on its stages, resting places and circular-route scenery; on the Culture Route, the wooden bridge is a specific waypoint. The two routes therefore feature different landscape elements.
Treetop Walk and forest world
The tourist attractions associated with Mogelsberg include the “Treetop Walk Neckertal Mogelsberg”. The treetop walk runs for 500 metres through the canopy of the Toggenburg forest. The path is 4 to 15 metres above the ground, and the viewing platform reaches a height of 55 metres. These figures refer to different parts of the facility: the path’s height above the ground and the platform’s height.
The treetop walk visitor centre has an interactive exhibition about the forest world of the Neckertal. This brings together two distinct highlights: the walk through the treetops and the exhibition in the visitor centre. You can take both aspects of the treetop walk into account when planning your visit.
Culture and getting there
Kultur in Mogelsberg has offered music, cabaret and theatre since 1985. The organisation is located at Dorfstrasse 16, 9122 Mogelsberg. Addresses can change, so check the address before your visit. For events, a reservation may include admission and dinner at the Rössli from 5.30 pm. Package details may change, so check the information for the specific event when planning an evening out.
Two SBB travel routes are listed: via St. Gallen and Herisau, or via Wil and Lichtensteig. Check the timetable for your travel dates, as connections may change. This is separate from the route taken by the Südostbahn: its St. Gallen–Wattwil rail line bypasses Mogelsberg in a loop. The two travel routes and the course of this rail line are different points of reference for planning your journey.
If you are looking for a hotel in Mogelsberg, you can choose your focus according to the kind of stay you have planned: a six-stage circular route, the treetop walk with its exhibition, or a cultural event each offers a different reason to visit. For specific travel dates, it is worth checking the timetable and the details of the event you plan to attend.
