A linear village with regionally typical wooden architecture
The term linear village refers to a settlement pattern in which houses are arranged along a road. In Hoffeld, this layout is part of the village’s character; the rural appearance of the farming-influenced village has been preserved. Several intact, regionally typical wooden buildings with gabled roofs make the construction style clearly visible. The settlement pattern describes how the village is laid out, while the wooden buildings display individual architectural features.
Meadows, pastures and views across the valley
The surroundings of Hoffeld are characterized by meadows and pastureland bordered by forest. From Hoffeld, views extend across the valley to the horizon on the forested opposite slope. Open land, the valley and the forest thus form distinct elements of a landscape that can be seen directly from the village.
The Necker flows through the entire municipality of Neckertal. The Aachbach Valley is a side valley of the Necker and extends uphill as far as Degersheim. These geographical connections place Hoffeld in the broader context of the river and the surrounding valleys.

Viewpoints and regional trails

The Neckertal Border Hiking Trail is one of the leisure and tourism offerings in the municipality. These locations have different points of reference: Chrüz is a viewpoint, the road connection is specifically named in relation to the Neckiweg, and the Border Hiking Trail is part of the municipal offering.
The Neckertal Cultural Trails comprise seven circular routes with more than 100 information panels in total. Together, they form a multi-part cultural offering, distinct from a single viewpoint or individual route connection. The Toggenburg region also has walking trails, scenic high-altitude hikes, bike and trail routes, as well as winter walking and snowshoe trails.
On October 18, 2025, the public Neckertal village tour, following an initial section in the Aach area, also visited the central part of Hoffeld. Local guides led the tour through the village; interior visits were possible at some locations.
