Versoix: Walks, Lakeside and Culture
Accommodation in Versoix
When choosing a hotel in Versoix, it can be helpful to consider what you want your stay to focus on. Walks, the lakeside, culture and sport offer different starting points for planning. The places and activities below give you a concrete idea of what you can do in Versoix.
Walks with nature and audio content
Versoix has two educational walks: “Autour des Douves” and “Entre ville et lac”. Each walk has around ten QR codes linking to audio descriptions. These provide information about local fauna and flora, as well as historical anecdotes about nearby places. If you want to make full use of the audio content, bring a mobile phone with a QR code reader.
“Entre ville et lac” takes about two and a half hours. The walk runs from the Bordier car park to Parc de la Bécassine. This gives you an idea of how long to allow and lets you work the route into your day based on its two endpoints. Along the Canal de Versoix, you will also find a shaded, green and peaceful walking path through residential areas. The Bois de Versoix is crossed by the river of the same name and is surrounded by cultivated land and nature reserves.
Lakeside and swimming spots
Port-Choiseul combines a pebble beach with a wooded park featuring barbecue grills, toilets and showers. A ramp into the lake is provided for people with reduced mobility and their companions. Plage de la Bécassine is at the mouth of the Versoix in the grounds of the Institut Forel. Swimming is unsupervised at both locations; check the latest notices before swimming.
The Anciens Bains were inaugurated on 18 June 1899 and completely redeveloped in 2021. The site is used for relaxation and swimming. Facilities include tiered seating and a shower; check their condition before your visit. This makes it possible to distinguish the swimming spots by their specifically listed features without implying that swimming is supervised.
Cultural venues and Festichoc
Espace Patrimoine is located in the Maison du Charron, at Rue des Moulins 6, 1290 Versoix. The building was inaugurated in 1987. The Association Patrimoine Versoisien uses the Maison for exhibitions and as an archive depot; it also organises exhibitions and conferences on history, art, crafts and popular traditions.
In Versoix-Centre-Ville, the Le Boléro cultural centre brings together an exhibition gallery, a library and media library, and a restaurant. These facilities are part of the area’s sociocultural activities and complement the Maison du Charron’s historical focus with a cultural centre offering several functions.
Festichoc is a free family festival founded in 2005 by the City of Versoix and dedicated to high-quality chocolate and its craft. It features tastings and sales, exhibitions of chocolate sculptures, activities and food stalls. A now-traditional exhibition showcases sculptures by aspiring chocolatiers from the Canton of Geneva. Family activities include a Favarger treasure hunt and an egg hunt; the programme may vary from one edition to the next.
Sport and practical information
The Centre Sportif de Versoix brings together numerous sports facilities, the municipal swimming pool and a recreation area. These include a 400-metre athletics track with six lanes. Access to the Centre Sportif is free and open to the public; check the latest municipal information before travelling there.
A trail starts in front of the Cabane des Bûcherons. This public venue is open to walkers at any time. There are six tables outdoors and another six under cover, along with a permanent barbecue with three fire pits. As the facilities may change, check their condition before visiting. As well as the trail, the Cabane offers a specific place to rest and plan your day.
