If you are looking for a hotel in Marly Fr, you can plan your stay around whether you mainly want to explore the outdoors, discover local history, or schedule an activity with a set time frame.
Location and townscape
Marly lies at an elevation of about 627 m above sea level in the Sarine district, around 3.5 km south of Fribourg. The municipality includes the settlements of Marly-le-Grand and Marly-le-Petit, the hamlet of Chésalles, and individual farms. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and mild winters.
River landscape and trails
The Gérine, also known as the Ärgera, winds through Marly; at the Le Port district, it flows into the Sarine. The municipal area includes the broad valley floor of the Ärgera shortly before its confluence, adjoining Molasse hills, wooded slopes such as Bois de l’Eglise and Vers le Bois, and a northern high plateau. The river meadows, forests and surrounding pastures offer space for walks and cycling tours. The valley, wooded slopes and plateau thus stand side by side as distinct landscape features. In warm weather, swimming in the Gérine is also possible; check local river conditions and safety information.
Circular trail to the Pierrafortscha
The “Sentier autour de Marly et Pierrafortscha” is a circular trail that starts and ends at the “Marly-Cité” bus stop. It leads to the Pierrafortscha, a granite erratic boulder. An information panel beside the stone explains its geological origins. You can also discover four chapels along the circular trail. Bringing these different points together makes the trail a way to experience natural and cultural heritage in a single outing, without reducing both to the same theme.
Church and historical details
The Église Saints-Pierre-et-Paul stands on foundations believed to be almost a thousand years old, dating from an estimated 10th to 12th century. Inside, visitors can see a Late Gothic baptismal font, a polychrome wooden Madonna—a copy of a 14th-century sculpture—and a Baroque high altar from the 18th century. There is also a contemporary altar by Antoine Claraz and a contemporary organ from 1982. The furnishings therefore bring together objects from different periods, from the estimated age of the foundations to more recent works.
The ringing of the bells also offers a distinct overview of the past: it comprises five bells, including three of historical significance from 1574, 1614 and 1742. The 1614 bell is the largest. On a visit to the church, you will encounter several different aspects of its history: the estimated age of the foundations, the furnishings and the dated bells.
Piscine de Marly and Xcape
The Piscine de Marly has facilities for the public, athletes and schools. These include a 25-metre pool with six lanes and a 110 m² diving pool with a one-metre springboard and a three-metre platform. These details distinguish the two pools by their configuration.
Xcape in Marly offers a large-scale escape-room game. The experience lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes in total: 15 minutes are set aside for welcome and instructions, one hour for the game, and a further 15 minutes for the debrief at the exit. This breakdown makes clear that the total time includes the introduction and conclusion as well as the game itself.
