Le Mouret: Pre-Alpine Landscape and Culture
Accommodation in Le Mouret
Hiking trails, a cycling route and cultural sites offer different reasons to visit Le Mouret. The municipality is located in the pre-Alpine rolling hills of the Fribourg Plateau, at the northern foot of the Berra mountain ridge. The landscape includes wooded slopes and hilly areas characterised by meadows and pastures.
Landscape and Hiking
The highest point in the municipality is Petit Cousimbert, at 1,530 metres. The southern boundary follows the mountain ridge to Chrüzflue, at 1,263 metres. Around Le Mouret, hiking trails pass through pre-Alpine landscapes and valleys, and along rivers. The summit of La Berra offers views of Lac de La Gruyère and the Pre-Alps; trails also run along the Ärgera and through the Plasselbschlucht gorge.
The “Autour du Mouret” hiking trail invites you to discover the villages and scenic landscapes of Le Mouret. Allow approximately five to six hours for the complete route; it can also be walked in several stages. This gives you the choice between a longer continuous hike and splitting the route into multiple stages. The trail is marked throughout with white arrows and diamonds.
Cycling
Cycling Route 59 from Fribourg to Schwarzsee runs from Fribourg via Bourguillon, Pierrafortscha, Tentlingen and Praroman to Le Mouret. Route 62 runs from Le Mouret via St. Sylvestre, Plasselb, Oberschrot and Planfayon to Zollhaus. Le Mouret is therefore on the described route between Fribourg and Zollhaus. Public transport can be used for the return journey along the cycling route. If you plan to use this option, check the relevant connection in advance.
Culture and Local History
Château de la Grande Riedera lies 1.5 kilometres south of the Le Mouret urban area, in the canton of Fribourg at an altitude of 785 metres. An old perimeter wall surrounds most of the château. In 1989, the Fondation Monique Pobé-Stoecklin acquired the estate; the foundation renovated and restored all the buildings and fully furnished them. The wall and the building’s history give the château a distinct historical focus alongside the trails through the landscape.
Église de Bonnefontaine also has a musical connection to local history: the organ acquired by the new parish came from the workshop of the celebrated Aloys Mooser. La Croix-Blanche in Le Mouret is a traditional inn showcasing the Fribourg region’s local produce and bears the “Fait Maison” label.
Event and Route Options
The Préalpes Trail du Mouret returns in 2026 with its usual routes, “Classic 38k” and “Surprise 22k.” For the Hike & Fly format, participants set off from the Centre sportif. They can either climb towards Chrüzflue and Cousimbert, or via La Scierie to La Berra, to take off from there.
The 2026 event also includes the Gorilla Challenge, an obstacle course for children aged 4 to 12 born between 2014 and 2022, as well as for teenagers aged 13 to 15 born between 2011 and 2013. Check the latest programme and event dates before travelling.
