When choosing a stay in Björboholm, you can prioritize different interests: the town preserves traces of the former Västgöta Railway; the park and former common forest offer opportunities for outdoor recreation, while Lake Mjörn and cycle paths provide additional themes. If you are looking for a hotel, consider in advance whether you want to combine your stay with local history, time by the water, or cycling.

Traces of the Västgöta Railway

The former Västgöta Railway left well-preserved traces in Björboholm: the station building, the railway worker's house, and the railway embankment with its rock cuttings. When the railway opened in 1900, it helped Björboholm develop into a central place. The preserved traces are of great importance for understanding and appreciating the town. Both the buildings and the landscape features are therefore part of the history of the former railway.

Björboholm, with its summer villas along the Västgöta Railway, is one of the municipal conservation areas around Lake Mjörn. The summer villas add another aspect of the town's history to the railway traces.

Park, Forest and Town Centre

Björboholmsparken is located in the middle of Björboholm along the former railway embankment. The summerhouse has a bookcase open to everyone: books can be borrowed, left, exchanged, taken, or read there. The bookcase was expanded in autumn 2023. If you want to rely on this offering, check before your visit whether it is currently available.

The former common forest of Björboholm now has high recreational value and is important for outdoor life. Directly behind the park is a football pitch with a view of Lake Mjörn. If you plan to use the pitch, find out about the current conditions in advance.

Strandkulle Promenade and Lake Mjörn

The old part of Björboholm is partly located on a beautiful peninsula. The Strandkulle Promenade runs around Björbo Huvde, which is also called Strandkullen. From 2011 to 2013, the promenade was restored. Its steamboat pier was rebuilt. In the past, the path also passed a bathing jetty and small changing huts.

From the boat harbour in Björboholm, you can take a trip around the islands of Lake Mjörn in your own boat. Mjörns båtuthyrning also offers boat rentals in Björboholm; check the current operating details before making plans. Lake Mjörn is considered one of the most fish-rich lakes in the region, both in terms of species diversity and the quantity of fish.

Cycling around Björboholm

The Mjörn Runt circular route is 67 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of about 700 metres. It offers views of Lake Mjörn and then runs for a longer stretch directly along the water. The cycle path follows the former railway embankment towards Björboholm and Sjövik. Check the route conditions before setting out. The area immediately south of Björboholm is close to Sverigeleden, a nationwide cycling route.

This provides various points of reference for planning your trip: historic railway features and the park in town, Lake Mjörn with its islands, and cycle paths with specific information about distance and route. You can prioritize these aspects based on which features of Björboholm interest you most for your stay.
