Aplared combines railway history with outdoor activities, including an illuminated running track, sports facilities and club activities, as well as nature and smaller lakes nearby. The bathing jetty at Skansasjön is in the water seasonally; near Ekbacken, Bronze Age clearance cairns lie within a nature reserve. If you’re planning a trip to Aplared, you can choose your own focus, from local history and exercise to water or landscape.

Railway history

Aplared developed around its railway station, which opened to traffic in 1902. A railway tunnel built at Aplared is 280 metres long. The year places the station opening in the town’s history; the tunnel measurement adds a different perspective, making a railway structure tangible through its length. This brings the development around the station together with a specific architectural detail.

Paths and sports facilities

The illuminated running track at Ekbacken is 1,500 metres long. It is lit from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., except during daylight. The length and lighting hours answer different planning questions: the first describes the route, while the second indicates when it is lit. There is a boules court beside the grass field at Ekbacken. In the woods, by the gravel area, there is a shelter with the option to barbecue. These offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors: a track with a specified length and lighting, a boules court beside the grass field, and a shelter with barbecue facilities.

Club activities and events

Aplareds IF hosts a betting pool with a walk and quiz at the clubhouse on the last Sunday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fika is also served at the clubhouse on the last Sunday of every month. Please confirm the Sunday activities before your visit. In 2026, people who are retired and others with free time during the day also meet at Aplareds IF on Mondays at 10 a.m. for informal activities, including walks around the illuminated running track. Please confirm this event in advance as well. For planning purposes, the activities can be distinguished as follows: the Sunday betting pool combines a walk and quiz, and fika is also offered that Sunday; the Monday gathering takes place on a different day of the week and includes informal activities.

Lakes and landscapes

Aplared is near several smaller lakes that offer opportunities for fishing and other water activities. The bathing jetty at Skansasjön is close to Aplared and is in the water from mid-May to early September. If the bathing jetty is relevant to your trip, this time frame can help with planning. Near Ekbacken, a nature reserve features beautiful scenery and Bronze Age clearance cairns. These are two distinct ways to enjoy the natural surroundings: water activities at smaller lakes and Bronze Age traces in the nature reserve near Ekbacken.
