Discover Sköndal: nature, Drevviken and culture
Accommodation in Sköndal
Sköndal offers several specific points of interest to help you plan a stay: paths along Drevviken, swimming spots and the cultural history of Stora Sköndal. When looking for a hotel, you can match these different themes to your travel plans and choose a focus for your time in the area.
Natural and parkland landscape
Stora Sköndal is a natural and parkland landscape by Drevviken. The area has the character of a residential park, with small houses containing apartments for seniors and staff set freely amid lush greenery. The road network and buildings were carefully adapted to the existing topography and natural surroundings. The Drevviken waterfront promenade is a landmark by the water, passing the Stora Sköndal estate. Near the estate, its main path continues farther from the shore through meadows and woodland towards the Flaten area.
Paths and the Kärnordsvandring
Paths for walking and jogging run along Drevviken at Talludden and Lövudden. One named walking route is the Kärnordsvandring: it is about two kilometres long and follows the lakeshore as a pilgrimage walk. The route passes nine stones bearing texts by the author and theologian Margareta Melin. This distinguishes it from the paths at Talludden and Lövudden: the Kärnordsvandring is shaped by its pilgrimage and texts, while the paths at Talludden and Lövudden are used for walking and jogging. Trail conditions can change; check current conditions for your route before setting out.
Swimming and kayaking
The family-friendly Sköndalsbadet is located on Drevviken; swimmers can use the sandy beach or the jetty. The lake lies directly below the swimming pool area. An unstaffed Kayakomat between Sköndalsbadet and the sun terrace rents single and tandem kayaks. Check in advance whether rentals are available on your chosen date, as operating information can change. Stora Sköndal’s outdoor swimming pool is for people with disabilities and their relatives. Access conditions can change; confirm them before visiting.
Church and cultural history
Another cultural landmark is Stora Sköndal Church. It was built between 1927 and 1929 and inaugurated in 1929. In Stockholm, it is one of 43 churches afforded special protection under the Cultural Heritage Act. Unlike the texts along the Kärnordsvandring, the focus here is on the history of a church building and its special protected status. This offers another way to explore Sköndal’s culture.
Getting there and choosing a hotel
You can reach Stora Sköndal on bus routes 188 from Gullmarsplan, 181 from Farsta and 143 from Älvsjö; all stop at Stora Sköndal. The three services have different starting points but share the same stop. As route information can change, check the current timetable before travelling.
