Bromma offers visitors a range of things to explore: walking paths in nature reserves, a waterfront promenade, beaches and historic buildings. When looking for a hotel in Bromma, it may help to consider what you would like to focus on during your stay: nature, architecture, history or the waterfront landscape. The examples below highlight different routes, habitats and historic sites.

Nature areas and walking paths

In the Judarskogen Nature Reserve, you can walk along the network of paths around Lake Judarn. Kyrksjölöten has easily accessible paths for walks and exercise. The two descriptions highlight different features: at Judarskogen, the lake is the focal point of the path network; in Kyrksjölöten, exercise is also among the activities mentioned.

There is more to Kyrksjölöten than its paths. The wet broadleaf woodland around Kyrksjön is a suitable habitat for birds, frogs, insects and wood-dwelling fungi. Part of the nature reserve is protected as a Natura 2000 site. This means that opportunities for walking and exercise sit alongside a protected landscape whose habitats support various groups of animals and fungi.

The new Ålstensskogen-Storskogen Nature Reserve is located in southeastern Bromma. It was established in 2026 and covers about 67.7 hectares. This adds another protected area, with a precisely stated size, to Bromma’s natural attractions.

Ă…keshov Arboretum also combines a park with an educational element: all the trees have name labels. The labels make the trees themselves the focus, setting this nature visit apart from the walking paths and habitat descriptions of the nature reserves.

Waterfront promenade and beach

The Bromma waterfront promenade follows the shoreline from Alvik to Ålsten and was fully completed in spring 2023. Changes in elevation were evened out and walking surfaces smoothed, making the promenade easier to use for people with physical disabilities. Its route along the water clearly sets it apart from the network of paths around Lake Judarn and the walking and exercise routes in Kyrksjölöten.

Ängbybadet beach has two sandy beaches and large grassy areas. This is a different focus from the Bromma waterfront promenade: here, the beach and grassy areas define the place, while the promenade is characterised by its shoreline route and improved walking surfaces. You can therefore see these two waterside settings as different themes for your stay.

Church, architecture and cultural heritage

The roundhouse of Bromma Church was built in 1168. On a guided tour, you can learn about the church’s history spanning more than 850 years and view medieval lime paintings from the workshop of Albertus Pictor. Tours are seasonal, so check the current dates before making plans.

Södra Ängby offers another chapter in the history of architecture: the area was built in the 1930s in the Functionalist style and is of national cultural heritage interest and high cultural heritage value. Both the architectural movement and the significance of the area are highlighted here. By contrast, Bromma Church is known for its roundhouse, built in 1168, and its medieval paintings.

Bromma Stockholm Airport is also part of Bromma’s cultural heritage. Five of the airport’s buildings have exceptionally high cultural heritage value and meet the requirements for listed buildings under Sweden’s Cultural Heritage Act. Bromma Stockholm Airport is Stockholm’s city airport. The classification of these buildings adds another perspective on Bromma’s architectural heritage to the examples of the church and residential area.
