Huddinge: Forests, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Huddinge
Discover Huddinge through a wide range of experiences: trackless forest areas, hiking trails through varied landscapes, winter activities and museums with local connections. The routes also differ considerably in length and character.
Forest Areas and Hiking Trails
Flemingsbergsskogen includes one of the largest trackless forest areas in Stockholm County. Paradiset is Huddinge’s largest continuous forest area, with opportunities for hiking, nature study and sport fishing. Both areas give nature a special place in your travel plans, while the Huddingeleden offers a broader hiking perspective: the entire trail runs through Huddinge and 13 protected natural areas. It is less than 80 kilometres long and passes through forests, by bird-rich lakes and through cultural landscapes.
A different route length is offered by the approximately three-kilometre walking trail around Lissmasjön, which passes through wetlands. In the Gladö Kvarnsjön Nature Reserve, you can hike along the Sörmlandsleden; Nyboviksbadet in the same reserve offers good swimming opportunities. Combining a trail with a swimming destination also makes this a good option for a summer outing. Check the local conditions before setting out.
Activities Throughout the Year
In Ågesta, you’ll find hiking trails, cross-country trails and lit trails. In winter, cross-country skiing is also possible there on tracks that are partly covered with artificial snow. Golf enthusiasts can play a round at Ågesta Golfklubb or use the driving range. Ågesta Gård och Ridskola offers pony rides, trial rides and group lessons for beginners through to advanced riders.
Winter ice activities also vary in route length: Sundby GĂĄrd at OrlĂĄngen has two groomed skating tracks, approximately ten and three kilometres long. On Drevviken, a groomed loop track is described as approximately 20 kilometres long in total. Ice conditions affect whether these routes are available, so check the latest conditions in advance. Flottsbro has five downhill runs and three lifts for alpine skiing; check whether they are in operation during the season.
For a waterside outing, Sundbybadet at Orlången has a small sandy beach, a bathing jetty and green spaces. There is a playground beside the swimming area, and you can also rent rowing boats there to explore the lake. Facilities and boat rentals may change seasonally. Cross-country skiing and skating are possible on Lake Gömmaren; in summer, you can swim from a rock in the surrounding area. These seasonal plans depend on the conditions.
Museums, Art and Local History
At the Litografiska Museet, you can learn how lithographs are printed on stone and discover the history of this printing technique. There is a car park nearby, and the museum also has an accessible toilet. If this is important for your visit, check the arrangements in advance. Hagalunds Tvätterimuseum is said to be Sweden’s first and only laundry museum. You can reach it by metro or bus to Masmo, then walk for about ten minutes. As timetables may change, it’s a good idea to check the latest connections.
Nyboda hembygds- och skolmuseum preserves a historic classroom with books and handicraft items. It is about a five-minute walk from Huddinge station. Group visits can also be booked for times when the museum is closed; arrange your booking before your visit. At Stensberg, you can learn more about life on a crofter’s holding: the crofter who lived there paid rent by working three days a week at the Stensättra estate. Smedjan vid Björksättra is a fully equipped, working forge that has been restored to its original condition. Visits at other times can be booked.
For art, Fullersta GĂĄrd displays works by the satirist EWK and the poet Karin Boye, both of whom are associated with Huddinge. The programme also includes exhibitions by professional artists. Alongside forests and waterside experiences, art, crafts and local history offer independent reasons to visit Huddinge.
