Huddinge between nature, trails and culture
Accommodation in Huddinge
If you’re looking for a hotel in Huddinge, it’s worth first considering what you plan to do. Huddinge station is an important interchange: commuter trains and buses connect the area with other parts of the municipality and the Stockholm region. Natural areas, hiking trails, cycling and winter sports, and cultural attractions offer different experiences. When planning your trip, you can weigh these options separately and decide what matters most for your stay.
Natural areas and landscapes
Flemingsbergsskogen is one of the largest roadless forest areas in Stockholm County and is characterized by marshes and coniferous forest. Orlången Nature Reserve, by contrast, offers an open, varied landscape. Tawny owls and bats hunting for prey are among its nocturnal wildlife. The area therefore offers two distinct landscape experiences: roadless forest and open, diverse nature.
The landscape of Paradiset Nature Reserve includes old-growth forest, marshland, fields, pastureland and several lakes. There are also picnic spots and wind shelters. Forest, water and open spaces characterize the area, along with opportunities to take a break. For an overview of Huddinge’s nature reserves, hiking trails, barbecue areas, swimming spots, observation towers, fishing lakes and archaeological sites, Naturkartan provides visitor information.
Hiking trails and outdoor activities
The full Huddingeleden trail passes through 13 protected natural areas and is just under 80 kilometres long. Along the way, unspoiled forests and lakes rich in birdlife give way to a vibrant cultural landscape, as well as built-up areas with high-rise buildings and villas. A hike on Huddingeleden also takes you through deciduous and spruce forests and offers views of Lake Drevviken.
Near Sundby Gård, there is a two-kilometre illuminated loop. At the entrance, you’ll find a large car park and information boards; from there, you can access the marked Gröna spåret and Huddingeleden trails. The Stenbergsleden, also known as Gröna spåret, runs between Sundby and Visättra through rocky pine forest, spruce forest, marshland and pastureland. This means you can choose between an illuminated loop and a trail that passes through a variety of landscapes.
If you’re planning an activity on the water, you can canoe from Drevviken Nature Reserve all the way to Kalvfjärden in the Baltic Sea. Flottsbro Bike Park has trails for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. The ski area has a vertical drop of 103 metres, and its longest run is 700 metres. Flottsbro beach is 100 metres long and has two bathing jetties and a guest dock.
Culture and history
Balingsta kvarn, a windmill and Huddinge’s only surviving historic mill, stands by Lake Orlången. It has been preserved in almost unchanged condition. Litografiska museet is a working museum with a lithographic workshop and exhibition hall. Objects at Nyboda hembygds- och skolmuseum show what interiors looked like from the late 19th century onward.
Fullersta Gård presents an art programme featuring professional artists whose work has been exhibited in Sweden and internationally. Huddinge is also home to works by the satirist EWK and poet Karin Boye, both of whom have close ties to Huddinge. Together, the mill, museums, art programme and artworks offer insight into a range of cultural themes to consider when planning your stay.
