Danderyd combines nature experiences with culture and outdoor activities: the municipality has two nature reserves, parks, lakes, sports facilities and a varied cultural offering. Long-distance hiking trails, a short cultural and historical walk, and parks with stories of their own show just how varied a stay can be.

Hiking trails and nature in Danderyd

Roslagsleden begins beside the intersection of Edsbergsvägen and Enebybergsvägen. Its starting point is within walking distance of Mörby centrum metro station, and the trail leads to Rinkebyskogen. Roslagsleden is 190 kilometres long in total and runs north from Danderyd towards the northern archipelago, known as Roslagen. It ends in Grisslehamn. If you are planning to travel by public transport, check the current connections before setting off.

Rinkebyskogen Nature Reserve is Danderyd’s largest continuous forest area. It has numerous paths, hiking trails and fitness trails. The reserve is accessible by bus from stops along Edsbergsvägen and Enebybergsvägen. The Nora-Ekeby cultural trail offers a different scale: this archaeological and cultural-historical walk is about six kilometres long and describes 28 different stops or sites. It can be explored on foot or by bicycle on existing roads and paths. This means you can choose between a manageable circular walk and a much longer long-distance trail.

Mörbylund also offers views of nature: elevated viewpoints look out over Värtan, Edsviken and Ulriksdal Palace. Cedergrenska Park’s distinctive features include an arboretum with exotic conifers and a garden section with 50 different varieties of fruit trees. Cedergrenska Tower was built using traditional craftsmanship techniques.

Parks, water and activities

Svanholmsparken combines recreational areas with traces of history. Visitors can learn more about the park’s long history from historical signs. The park also has a playground, a volleyball court, a barbecue area and toilets. A sandy beach and large areas for picnicking and sunbathing offer more ways to spend time outdoors.

If you are planning to go swimming, there are two different pools to choose from: Mörbybadet is an indoor pool with activities such as water aerobics, pool parties, relaxation, front-crawl classes and swimming lessons. Kvarnparksbadet is an outdoor pool with a 25-by-10-metre pool and a smaller 13-by-7-metre pool. It also offers swimming lessons, a kiosk serving coffee, changing rooms, a sauna and a boules court. The outdoor pool operates seasonally, and its availability may vary.

Sports activities can also be part of your trip. Danderyds curlinghall has eight lanes, which can be rented by private individuals, among others. Danderyds Curlingklubb offers introductory curling sessions and lane hire; availability varies by season. Djursholms golfklubb has a nine-hole course and an 18-hole course.

Discover architecture and culture

A walk through Djursholms villastad highlights several successive phases of architectural development. The villa district was established around 1889–1890 as the first upper-class villa district outside Stockholm; its buildings span architectural styles from 1890 to the present day. Djursholms Castle acquired its present appearance in the 17th century and can be hired for weddings, conferences and other events. Check the latest booking details when planning a specific event. Construction of the Djursholms Water Tower began in 1890.

Danderyd Church has served as a parish and community church since the 15th century. Its medieval art treasures include a 12th-century statue of Christ, a 13th-century triumphal cross and a 14th-century Madonna sculpture. Djursholm is also home to Dafne, a large bronze sculpture in the square.

There is also plenty of inspiration for contemporary culture: the “Upptäck konsten” app, launched in 2025, features eleven public artworks from Danderyd. It offers self-guided art walks with information about the artists and their works. During Danderyds konstrunda, held every two years, studios and exhibition spaces open to the public; the programme and dates vary with each edition. Danderydsgården hosts concerts as well as art and photography exhibitions, with a focus on cultural activities for children. The address is Noragårdsvägen 27; it is a five-minute bus ride or a 15-minute walk from Mörby centrum. Check current bus connections before travelling.

The options range from nature trails and viewpoints to architecture, art and sports. For planning, it helps to note the difference between the approximately six-kilometre Nora-Ekeby walk and the 190-kilometre Roslagsleden: the two trails represent very different scales, while parks, swimming pools and cultural venues offer other ways to focus your visit.
