Danderyd brings together archaeological traces and historic sites with woodland paths and places by the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Danderyd, you can start by asking yourself which aspect of the destination you want to shape your stay: cultural history, nature or time by Edsviken. The different places offer practical guidance for planning your trip.

Paths and nature in Danderyd

In the western part of the municipality, the Rinkebyskogen Nature Reserve lies right next to a residential area. It has numerous paths, hiking trails and fitness trails. The Roslagsleden trail also runs partly through the reserve. There is a four-kilometre mountain bike trail there. In Rinkebyskogen, you’ll find different types of routes: paths for walking and fitness, as well as a designated mountain bike route.

Altorpskogen offers a different woodland setting. Along its paths and fitness trails, this largely untouched forest conveys the impression of a deep, primeval woodland. Small deciduous fens are scattered throughout the area. The Nora-Ekeby Cultural Trail, by contrast, focuses on archaeology and cultural history: the approximately six-kilometre walking route can be explored on foot or by bicycle using existing roads and paths. Remains along the trail include runic inscriptions and burial grounds. At around six kilometres, it is longer than the four-kilometre mountain bike trail in Rinkebyskogen; the two figures refer to different types of route.

Church and industrial history

Danderyd Church has served as a parish and community church since the 15th century. It acquired its present three-aisled form in the 17th century under Svante Gustafsson Banér. The two dates mark distinct chapters: its long history of religious use and the later design of the building.

Kvarnstugan in Nora also recalls work once carried out by the water. It used to house a mill and a sawmill, both powered by the stream from Ekebysjön. Another historic landmark is Cedergrenska Tower and its park in Stocksund. Both are in the southern part of Danderyd Municipality, right by Stocksund. Construction of the tower began in 1896; it was inaugurated in 1996.

Edsviken, Nora-ån and summer swimming

At Borgenklipporna on the shore of Edsviken, there are flat rocks where you can sunbathe. A bathing ladder makes it easier to get into the deep water there. Hammarbacken is also a rocky bathing spot on Edsviken. Nora-ån flows through Kvarnparken, where various plant species that thrive near water grow. You can swim in the pool at Kvarnparksbadet during the summer months.

Local culture and finding a hotel

Concerts and art and photography exhibitions are held at Danderydsgården. The venue focuses in particular on cultural activities for children. Danderydsgården is at Noragårdsvägen 27. It is a five-minute bus ride or a 15-minute walk from Mörby centrum.

Then compare the stated location of a specific hotel with your own plans for Danderyd.
