Fertile plains in the south and the wooded valleys of Söderåsen in the north define the municipality of Svalöv. On Söderåsen, beech forests alternate with striking valleys and ravines; the area is also known for its geology and flora. Söderåsen National Park covers 1,625 hectares, 58 percent of which lie within the municipality of Svalöv. When planning your visit, it is worth considering the different landscapes and the routes and experiences described for each.

Experience nature: from a volcanic hill to a raised bog

At Odensjön, 30-meter-high steep slopes surround the 19-meter-deep lake. Facilities include a shelter and a floating jetty; however, the lake is not an official bathing site. If you want to swim or go into the water, check the local rules beforehand.

Jällabjär is an extinct volcano. As its basalt weathers, it forms nutrient-rich soil. Two marked circular trails each lead for three kilometers through beech forest and grazed juniper heath. There is also a shelter with a fire pit and a toilet at the southern entrance. This makes it possible to experience the geological feature, forest and open heath together on a hike.

A longer route option is the Ås till Ås Trail, which runs for about 25 kilometers through the municipality of Svalöv. This is an approximate length; it is on a different scale from the two circular trails at Jällabjär, each of which is three kilometers long.

The Traneröds mosse, Grindhus and Lilla Klåveröd nature reserve lies partly within the municipality and is both a nature reserve and a Natura 2000 site. Traneröds mosse is one of the few raised bogs in western Skåne to have escaped drainage, peat extraction and cultivation. An accessible boardwalk runs 400 meters across the bog and back. In terms of a shorter distance, this is a different option from the three-kilometer circular trails at Jällabjär.

In the Svenstorp-Bolshus fälad nature reserve, pastures, wet meadows and small wooded areas meet. Nearly 300 species have been recorded in the area. You can explore it on small roads and paths or by walking freely; rest areas and a small car park are available. If you are also interested in cycling, there is a 5.3-kilometer mountain biking loop north of the Klåveröd nature reserve. Fishing is possible at Klåverödsdammen, and several natural climbing walls are located at Snuvestuan in the Klåveröd area.

Cultural trails, history and special visits

Svalöv is home to the sculpture park by Svalövssjön. A sculpture trail also runs through Svalöv, where you can walk from the lake in the north to Felestad in the south. These two descriptions provide different points of reference: the park is located by the lake, while the trail connects two points within the town.

Skånelin offers courses and activities on processing flax. On certain days, members of the public are welcome to learn about the process. Opening days and course schedules may change; check the dates before your visit. The Svalöv Fire Brigade Museum displays, among other things, a 1929 Ford fire engine, a horse-drawn wagon and firefighting equipment. Access to the museum may depend on the responsible association.

Knutstorp is the birthplace of astronomer Tycho Brahe, who was born there in 1546. The estate is privately managed, so please make separate arrangements to clarify whether a visit is possible. During track days at Ring Knutstorp, visitors can drive their own cars on the race track. Dates, booking conditions and availability may change, so it is advisable to check before making plans.

Cultural and historical attractions also offer different points of interest: Stenestad Church dates from the Romanesque period. The village has a character representative of the small church villages of the transition and forest regions, as they took shape in the 19th century. Treudden near Magleröd is a very rare example in Skåne of an Iron Age burial type.

Visitor information

The southern entrance to Söderåsen National Park is in Röstånga, next to the tourist information office. Bikes are rented there; the service is seasonal and may change. There are also small cafés and restaurants in the municipality of Svalöv. Opening hours and offerings at these businesses may change too. Whether your focus is on bog landscapes, hiking trails, cultural attractions or a racetrack event, the options described differ in distance, subject and visitor conditions.
