Lomma: Coast, harbor and industrial history
Accommodation in Lomma
A 21-kilometre coastline defines the municipality of Lomma. Beaches, the harbor, nature reserves and an industrial past give a stay different focal points. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether swimming and harbor life or walks and culture will play a bigger role in your plans.
Beach and harbor
Lomma Beach lies north of the harbor entrance and close to restaurants and other services. Adjacent volleyball and football courts complement the beach area; Strandfuret, a place for walks, is next to the beach. A wooden walkway leads down to the beach from the promenade or Stiltjeplatsen. Swimming is possible year-round in Lomma and Bjärred. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are practiced along the coast and in the coastal area around Lomma.
Hamnhusen, also known as T-bryggan, is close to the center of Lomma, the bus stops and the harbor area. T-bryggan has an accessible bathing ramp and a bathing wheelchair. If you plan to use this equipment, check its current availability before your visit. In addition to commercial fishing and a marina, the harbor has restaurants and cafés; the marina has 500 berths.
Nature areas and birdwatching
The Strandhusens revlar marine nature reserve lies southwest of Lomma in the southern part of Lomma Bay. Its sandbanks are important for coastal and seabirds. Domedejla mosse is a 12-hectare nature reserve with woodland, pools and a hay meadow.
The Löddeåns mynning nature reserve lies on the border between Lomma and Kävlinge and is part of the Natura 2000 network. There are walking paths and barbecue areas along the river. A birdwatching tower at the mouth of the river can be used year-round; seasonal access restrictions apply in parts of the reserve.
Walking and running routes
Strandstråket is a coastal walking path that runs from the Spillepeng recreation area in the south to the Lödde å in the north. Some sections are paved and wheelchair-accessible. If you rely on this feature, check the current condition of the route in advance. Skåneleden stages 11, 12 and 13 also pass through Lomma.
For short intervals, Fladängsparken has a 400-metre loop around the park and along the Höje å. Habo Fure has a three-kilometre forest running loop with a natural surface. In Karstorp, there is a varied one-kilometre running loop that is accessible outside school hours. The routes mentioned therefore differ in both length and setting.
Industrial history and culture
In the 19th century, Lomma developed into an industrial town: brickworks initially shaped the town, followed later by cement production. A brick unloading shed from the second half of the century is a surviving remnant of Skånska Cementaktiebolaget’s first cement factory. Kraften is a square transformer station made of red brick, built in 1908. The former power station is used for cultural history and art exhibitions; check the current program before visiting.
Lomma kyrka was built in 1872 from yellow machine-made bricks and inaugurated in 1873. Its furnishings include a reconstructed altar from the oldest church and six painted panels from the 18th century. Lomma Folkets Hus was completed in 1898 and is one of the oldest Folkets Hus buildings in the country. It regularly hosts cultural and entertainment programs; you can check specific dates in advance. Lomma Konstförening has been showing art in Lomma since 1955.
