Bjärred: Beach, Forest and Brickworks History
Accommodation in Bjärred
Bjärred brings together the coast, nature and cultural history, offering a range of reasons to visit. At Bjärreds Saltsjöbad, the nature reserve and the history of the former bathing resort meet. The former Bjersunds tegelbruk and Bergakyrkan add perspectives on industrial and architectural history. If you are looking for hotels in Bjärred, you can use these themes as a guide when planning your trip.
Beach and bathing pier at Långa bryggan
Långa bryggan is about 500 metres long. At its outer end are a cold-bath house and a restaurant. The beach by the bathing pier has Blue Flag status, an international environmental award. Both the long pier and the beach’s award shape Bjärred’s coastal character. For planning purposes, you can also note where the facilities are located: the cold-bath house and restaurant are at the outer end of the pier, while the Blue Flag designation applies to the beach.
Beech forest and paths by the sea
At Bjärreds Saltsjöbad, paths lead through a beech forest that is more than 100 years old. The forest grew from park trees around the former Saltsjöbaden bathing establishment, which operated during the first half of the 20th century. Here, the woodland landscape and the history of the former bathing resort come together. The area of Bjärreds Saltsjöbad, with the Långa bryggan bathing beach and the surrounding nature reserve, is highly significant for swimming and outdoor recreation.
The routes described also offer different experiences. The Löddeköpinge–Bjärred section of the Skåneleden trail follows a coastal walking path to Bjärreds Saltsjöbad and the Långa bryggan bathing pier. Along this section are houses that bear witness to Bjärred’s history as a summer retreat for wealthy residents of Lund. By contrast, the Bjärred–Lomma stage passes horse paddocks, built-up areas, beaches, ponds, surfing spots and pine groves, and follows the quay into the centre of Lomma. There are good public transport connections for this stage. Check the timetable if you plan to use public transport. The destinations listed distinguish the routes: the Löddeköpinge–Bjärred section leads to Saltsjöbaden and Långa bryggan, while the Bjärred–Lomma stage goes to the centre of Lomma. The difference is useful when choosing between historical and natural impressions: the houses of the former summer retreat are part of the historical perspective on Löddeköpinge–Bjärred; Bjärred–Lomma combines coastal and residential landscapes on the way to the centre of Lomma.
Brickworks and architectural history
Bergakyrkan in the south of Bjärred offers a different architectural perspective. It is part of a three-wing complex that combines modern architecture with traditional building styles. In 1994, to mark its 20th anniversary, a small place for meditation and quiet was created in the church.
