Klippan: Trails, River and Architecture

The Åslingan starts at Elfdalens Motionsanläggning next to the campsite in the eastern built-up area of Klippan. It is 3.1 kilometres long; the route is 3.6 kilometres for the section north of the Bäljane River. A short detour is Sagostigen, with wooden sculptures for younger hikers.

Walking through Klippan

The illuminated Elfdalsslingan is a 3-kilometre loop that partly follows the Bäljane River. With a little luck, you may spot grey wagtails, dippers and common sandpipers there. Blomgrens promenad runs for about 2.5 kilometres around the central parts of the built-up area. Cösterslingan starts in the centre of Klippan at Läderbackarna and heads towards the allotment gardens on Kolonigatan. Look out for kingfishers and dragonflies as you walk along the Bäljane River.

Cycling, rail biking and water

One route of Cykelleden Skåne starts and ends at Klippan railway station. Stage seven of Cykelleden Skåne 101 connects Klippan and Åstorp: it is 14.9 kilometres long and described as easy. A rail bike ride between Klippan and Ljungbyhed passes through natural oak and beech forests. The route is 13 kilometres long and starts at Nybygget railway station.

Along the Rönne River, calm, glassy stretches alternate with wild rapids. Three power stations dam the river and form lakes in the landscape. A canoe trip on the Rönne River from Djupadalsmölla to Herrevadskloster is about 16 kilometres long and takes around five hours. Route conditions and booking arrangements may change; check them before planning. The Rönneå canoe route in Klippan Municipality is part of an 85-kilometre route between Västra Ringsjön and Skälderviken.

Fishing is possible in the Rönne River and the Bäljane River in Klippan. Digital fishing permits are available for several stretches of river and fishing spots. The rivers offer different ways to enjoy your stay: a canoe route, changing stretches of water and opportunities for fishing.

Church, art and townscape

S:t Petri Church stands in a central location in the town park. It was built between 1962 and 1966 to a design by Sigurd Lewerentz. Its features include a double tapestry created by Sven X:et Eriksson and woven by Barbro Nilsson, an ivory crucifix designed by Christian Berg, and Berg’s outdoor sculpture Nådens skålar.

The older townscape reflects various architectural influences: Klippan’s oldest more cohesive development consists of simple street houses. Buildings in the more central areas along Storgatan and Järnvägsgatan have a more monumental character. Askahuset was built in 1864–1865 by Deputy District Judge Fritz Ask. The preserved railway environment includes a well-preserved station building, an engine shed and a water tower from the steam locomotive era. At the intersection of Allégatan and Järnvägsgatan stands Fredsfågel, a public sculpture by Antonio Pasquini from 2018.

Folkets hus/Kulturcenter is also part of local history: the building was completed in 1907. Historically, festivities, weddings, meetings, soirées, anniversaries, parades and theatre performances were held there and in the adjacent park.

Industrial history and visitor information

Klippan Yllefabrik began in 1879 on Järnvägsgatan as a small wool-spinning mill. It has a factory shop with regular stock and outlet products. Klippan Paper Mill lies south of the built-up area on the Rönne River; paper production in Klippan and the area around the Rönne River has a long history. Paths and hiking trails run alongside the factory, close to the river.

The Blomgren Photo Archive comprises environmental, group and portrait photographs dating from 1897 to the early 1950s. The images can be browsed in the libraries of Klippan Municipality. Klippans Konsthall is located at Storgatan 9 C; admission is free. Check the current visitor arrangements before your visit.

Aktivitetshuset Sågen at Ängelholmsgatan 1–9 is open to the public; opening hours may change. Klippans badhus offers public swimming, a warm-water pool, sauna, steam room and gym; opening hours and facilities may change.

At the municipal level, Klippan lists Söderåsen National Park among its excursion destinations. The Naturum Söderåsen visitor centre is at the Skäralid entrance to the national park.
