Nyhamnsläge: Coast, Harbor and History
Accommodation in Nyhamnsläge
Nyhamnsläge combines a coastal landscape with harbor and local history, as well as activities on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Nyhamnsläge, you can first consider whether your stay will focus more on nature, historical traces or sailing. The nature reserve, harbor and local club activities each offer a different emphasis.
Coast, nature reserve and traces of the past
The Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn Nature Reserve stretches for about two kilometers along the coast of the Kulla Peninsula. The area contains a stone circle from the Iron Age, as well as a few burial mounds from the Bronze Age. These finds point to different periods: the stone circle dates to the Iron Age, and the burial mounds to the Bronze Age. Those interested in older history as well as the coastal landscape will find specific points of interest here.
The Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden Nature Reserve encompasses coastal heathland around a moraine ridge that extends out into the sea at Kullens havsbad. The Skåneleden trail runs through the entire nature reserve. The landscape and trail together provide a focus for planning your trip. If you’d like to include the Skåneleden, you can follow its route through the area.
Harbor and local history
Nyhamnsläge was originally a fishing village called Nyhamn. When a railway station was built on the line to Mölle, the name was changed to Nyhamnsläge because Nyhamn was already in use elsewhere in Sweden. The first house on the site where today’s Nyhamnsläge later developed was built in 1778.
Nyhamnsläge’s oldest buildings are in the blocks around the harbor. Nyhamn’s first proper landing pier was built in the early 19th century. The name change, in turn, is connected to the railway station on the line to Mölle.
Sailing, sauna and practical planning
In summer, Röde Orm offers sailing courses for all age groups at Nyhamnsläge harbor. As the courses are seasonal, check before your trip whether they’re available during your travel dates. The club also offers members the chance to sail together in the evenings; this activity is also seasonal.
Another activity in Nyhamnsläge is sauna bathing with Nyhamns Bastuförening. Non-members can also use the sauna by contacting a club member. Confirm availability before your visit. This lets you consider the sauna as a separate planning item alongside the seasonal sailing activities, while keeping the different access requirements in mind.
The playground in Nyhamnsläge is accessible by bus route 222 to the Nyhamnsläge centrum stop. Check the connection in advance, as information about bus services and stops may change. This way, you can take both local activities and the practical information you need into account when planning.
