Höganäs: City History, Ceramics and Kvickbadet
Accommodation in Höganäs
For a stay in Höganäs, two specific themes stand out: the city’s history and ceramics production, and the routes connecting the area with the water and Kvickbadet. The cultural offerings range from exploring an exhibition on the city’s history to trying your hand at the potter’s wheel. The route sections provide specific local connections. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to organise your time around historical themes, a guided activity or a particular route.
City history and ceramics
The permanent exhibition at KKAM Museum is devoted to the history of Höganäs. Its themes include the fishing village, brickworks, Folkparken and the local production of ceramics, corsets and books. This places local ceramics in a broader context alongside other themes from the city. Two dates add context to the history of production: a brickworks was founded in Höganäs in the 1820s, and around 1830 the production of lead-glazed ceramic household wares began there. The dates are close together but mark different stages in local production. The term “household wares” draws attention to ceramics intended for practical use. The exhibition thus places ceramics within a history of the city that also encompasses other local products and themes.
Kulturhus and library garden
Höganäs Kulturhus is a meeting place with Sweden’s newest library, an exhibition hall, a stage, a café and rooms for gatherings. The Kulturhus also includes Sweden’s only library garden, with greenery and seating. While KKAM Museum presents a permanent exhibition on the city’s history, Kulturhus brings together several cultural and meeting-place functions. The two venues therefore have different focuses: the museum centres on the history of Höganäs, while Kulturhus combines a library, exhibitions, a stage, a café and rooms for gatherings.
Experience ceramics hands-on
At Prova på-drejning, participants move from looking at ceramics to working at the potter’s wheel themselves. After a group introduction and demonstration, they turn a piece of their own. A ceramicist from KKAM provides personal guidance and supervision; afterwards, the workshop staff fire and glaze the piece. This makes the activity different from a visit to an exhibition: the focus is on guided hands-on throwing and the subsequent treatment of the piece. Availability must be arranged in advance. Bear this in mind when planning the activity as part of your stay.
Routes by the water and Kvickbadet
The Helsingborg–Höganäs section of the Kattegattleden runs along the water and leads to Kvickbadet, south of the harbour in Höganäs. The Kullaleden includes a section from Viken Harbour (Vikens hamn) to Kvickbadet. Kvickbadet is the shared destination for both route sections, but their starting points differ. The Kattegattleden section is also characterised by its route along the water, while the Kullaleden section is identified by Viken Harbour as its starting point. These differences help you distinguish between the two routes.
