In Båstad, you can shape your stay around garden art, tennis history and excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula. The sights and trails offer different experiences: from formal gardens just outside town to a museum in the centre and a challenging coastal hike.

Gardens, tennis and architectural history

Norrviken Gardens are located just outside Båstad on the scenic coast. Rudolf Abelin created the gardens in different styles in the early 20th century. The grounds can be reached by car, local bus or bicycle. If you’re including a visit in your day’s plans, check the local bus timetable before setting off.

Sveriges Tennismuseum, Sweden’s only tennis museum, is right in the centre of Båstad. Images, texts and films tell the story of Swedish tennis. This offers a different perspective from the gardens: here, the focus is on the history of the sport, while the gardens are about design.

The buildings of old Båstad are also part of the area’s cultural history. Föreningen Gamla Båstad preserves and documents this heritage, making it accessible through images, architectural history and people’s memories. If you’re interested in how the town has developed, you can learn about its buildings as well as personal recollections.

Another visit focused on cultural history takes you to the Birgit Nilsson Museum. There, you can experience the farm where Birgit Nilsson played as a child and dreamed of a life in the world of singing and opera. The museum can be reached from Båstad on bus 502 towards Torekov; check the route before travelling.

Hikes and landscapes

The challenging coastal hike on the Bjäre Peninsula covers 52 kilometres, from Båstad via Torekov and Grevie and back to Båstad. Allow plenty of time for this route and check trail conditions before setting off. The shorter, 12-kilometre Kustslingan starts in Malen. These distances can help you plan the length of your route, but on their own they don’t indicate how difficult Kustslingan is.

The Båstad Runt trail starts at Båstad torg. The blue Hålehall loop offers a different option: it follows a forest path and is suitable for pushchairs. Check current trail conditions before you set off. You can then weigh up which route suits your day based on its starting point and the conditions given.

You can start your hike through Sinarpsdalen either at the exhibition centre or nature school in Dala, near Båstad, or at Vitsippsvägen in Grevie. A bus stops at both ends; check current services before your hike. The western part of the valley is shaped by agriculture and has significant natural and cultural-historical value. The woodland south of Axelstorp also features beech stands, ravines and a waterfall.

Cycling, farm shops and golf

Four cycling routes are listed in Båstad: Kattegattleden, Cykelleden Skåne, Bjäre Banvall and Buktenleden. The Gårdsbutikssafari is a circular route across the Bjäre Peninsula that visits farm shops. It goes to Hov and on to Segelstorp before returning to Båstad. The shops offer freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, as well as artisan food products. As individual shops and seasonal availability may vary, check what’s available in advance.

Båstad Golfklubb was founded in 1930 by Ludvig Nobel. Its Gamla Banan is Sweden’s second-oldest 18-hole course. Members and guests can spend a full day playing golf and make use of a restaurant, a well-stocked shop and practice facilities. As facilities can change, it’s a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.

Getting there and choosing a hotel

Båstad station is served by regional and long-distance trains, with connections to Malmö, Gothenburg and Copenhagen. Check the timetables if you’re planning to travel by train. You can also factor in the gardens’ accessibility by car, local bus or bicycle, and the bus connection to the Birgit Nilsson Museum.
