Kattvik: Fishing Village, Coast and Skåneleden
Accommodation in Kattvik
Kattvik combines the character of an old fishing village with a coastal landscape and a specific connection to hiking. Rocky beaches define this stretch of coast, small-scale pastureland lies above the village, and old fishermen’s cottages stand by the harbor. From Kattvik, you can hike the Skåneleden trail towards the beautiful cliffs. These features offer different perspectives on a stay: the historic harbor, the landscape and a specific hiking option.
Harbor and fishing history
Kattvik was originally an old fishing village with a harbor. There is a small boat harbor, where old fishermen’s cottages with red wooden cladding and sheet-metal roofs stand. These two details show different sides of the harbor area: the small boat harbor represents its function, while the cottages with their red wooden cladding and sheet-metal roofs reflect the built heritage of its fishing history. The coastal road between Båstad and Kattvik, built around the turn of the century, is also part of the village’s history. The road adds another historical point of reference to the fishing history.
Coastal landscape and designated areas
Above Kattvik lies a landscape of small-scale pastures, while rocky beaches define the stretch of coast. All of Kattvik is part of a landscape conservation area under the former Natural Resources Act. The coastal strip is also subject to shoreline protection. The areas covered differ: the landscape conservation area encompasses all of Kattvik, while shoreline protection applies to the coastal strip. Parts of upper Kattvik (Troentorp) are designated in the cultural heritage conservation program because of their old road network. Troentorpsdalen is a landscape area and also a La area. The designation in Troentorp is thus linked to a specific historical feature.
Walking around Kattvik
Krossarevägen in Kattvik is the northeasternmost entrance to Bjärekusten Nature Reserve. From Kattvik, you can hike the Skåneleden trail towards the beautiful cliffs. The two details answer different questions about orientation: Krossarevägen identifies a particular entrance to the reserve, while the Skåneleden indicates a hiking route towards the cliffs. This distinguishes a specific access point from a hiking connection to the cliffs.
Fruit growing and regional produce history
Kattviks Fruktodling was founded in 1936 by CP Johansson and is still run across several generations. The crops consist mainly of apples, but also include pears. Apple varieties still grown include Ingrid Marie and Cox Orange. The farm presses unfiltered apple juice without additives from Swedish fruit grown in the region. In 2018, Per Henrysson bought Bjärebygdens Musteri AB, which produces apple juice under the name Englamust, and continued running the company as part of Kattviks Fruktodling. The timeline distinguishes two steps: 1936 marks the founding of the fruit farm, and 2018 the acquisition of the press and its continuation as part of Kattviks Fruktodling.
Pick your own in autumn
Four autumn weekends are set aside for pick-your-own; the dates vary depending on the weather and fruit ripeness. If you would like to plan your trip around this, check with the farm in advance to find out which dates apply for that autumn.
