Roxenbaden by Lake Roxen
Accommodation in Roxenbaden
Roxenbaden lies on the northern shore of Lake Roxen. When choosing a destination, the area combines a history of summer houses with a landscape of cultivated land, forest and Sandvik Beach. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these features can help you choose a destination that suits your interests: Would you like to explore the history of summer living, get to know the character of the landscape or consider Sandvik as a bathing spot?
Landscape on the Northern Shore
The central landscape area along Road 1136 includes old cultivated land, most of which is kept open. The recreational landscape also includes forest, large individual trees, groups of trees, pastureland and ravines; the ravines are designated as valuable habitats. For your choice of destination, this combination of open cultivated land and valuable habitats is a distinctive feature alongside the lakeside setting.
Summer Houses and Local History
Four types of summer houses can be distinguished in Roxenbaden: houses designed by architects or master builders, prefabricated catalogue houses, houses built by their owners themselves, and older torp (cottages) relocated from other places and used as summer houses. This classification highlights their different origins. For relocated torp, their origin in another place is also a distinguishing feature.
The oldest summer villas, dating from shortly after 1900, stand on spacious plots that slope steeply down to Lake Roxen. Traces of terracing and steps can be found in most gardens. These garden features illustrate how the steep terrain was incorporated into the older villa plots. Intensive development of new summer house areas took place again around Roxenbaden in the 1960s. The villas built shortly after 1900 and the later development phase thus mark two distinct historical periods.
Sandvik: Swimming and Overnight Stays
Sandvik Beach is on Lake Roxen. Water temperatures are measured there during the swimming season, from May 15 to September 15. If water temperature matters for your swimming day, take this period into account when planning. There is a parking lot for beach visitors at the swimming area. As parking arrangements may change, check the current rules before setting out.
The Sandvik recreational area is used for cabin rentals as well as camping, caravans and motorhomes. If you include these options in your accommodation plans, check the operator and availability again before travelling.
Cycling Tour and Directions to Sandvik
Roxenbaden is listed as a destination on the “Roxen runt” cycling tour. To reach Sandvik swimming area, follow Stjärnorpsvägen from Berg for about 2.5 kilometres. These two details answer different planning questions: the cycling tour lists Roxenbaden as a destination, while the directions guide you to the swimming area from Berg.
